Borich & Bill Ballance |
You
and Bill Ballance have been going back and
forth on the points lead this year. He’s
going for his eighth championship, you’re
going for your first; can you give us a little
over view of how that’s been for you
this year?
It’s been working out really good. The
first two rounds I had a little bit of motor
issues, and I wouldn’t get the greatest
starts, and I was kind of tired after working
my way up through the pack and then right around
the third race, Sparks Racing got a motor together
for me and it’s done awesome since then.
In Kentucky I had a little bit of bad luck…a
brake issue. A rock came up and clipped the
back brake paddle and I lost my brakes. At Snowshoe
I pretty much got screwed there. I came through
the pits, they told me it was going to be five
laps and then someone came in crying saying
it was too dangerous, so it was made a four
lap race. After Snowshoe I was really aggravated,
and I just wasn’t really happy. I took
the summer break off and was racing sprint cars
with my dad. I had a good time and hit some
local races, then came back here and did what
I needed to do.

What’s
it like racing the sprint cars?
It’s a whole different ballgame there.
The first night out was pretty scary with
those guys cranking around there. We actually
ran at the track and I picked it up have been
pretty quick ever since. It’s pretty
cool entering a corner at 120mph and pitching
sideways wide open. It was a good time!
Do
you get nervous doing the sprint cars now
knowing that you have a championship on the
line?
Not really. Anything can happen at anytime
so I just go out and do it. I’m just
really glad I got the opportunity to go out
and do it.
Not
only do you have a shot at the championship
going on here at the GNCC, but you’ve
been doing extremely well at the WPSA as well.
You’ve come out and won five out of
six races. How does it feel to be doing so
well there?
It’s been really good. I knew I wanted
to do it. I talked to Can-Am and they actually
hooked me up with a full ride. They might
have been a little hesitant at first to give
me a full ride, but I think it paid off in
the end since I’ve either won every
race or been right there. The WPSA series
is a good series. It’s fun to race something
different.
What’s
the biggest challenge for you going from a
sport quad to a utility quad?
You have a bigger machine; a couple hundred
pounds more. It’s a big machine to move
around, but other than that it’s pretty
simple. If you can ride a sport bike good,
you can hop on anything and be decent on it.
The utility is a good time.

Borich races the WPSA Series on a CanAm
Outlander when the schedule doesn't
conflict with a GNCC, and he has been
a dominate force winning 6 of 7 rounds |
You’ve
worked you way to the top five in the WPSA
even after missing a couple rounds, and with
this last round coming up you could possibly
even be in the top three, but it overlaps
with Unadilla, how do you feel about that?
I knew that when I cam into it that I didn’t
really have a shot at winning the championship
so it doesn’t really bother me. I just
wanted to go out and win as many as I could.
The one I didn’t win, I had rear end
issues. Other than that the Can-Am worked
awesome for me. I just had a good time out
there.

Borich is just 4 races away from possibly
winning his first championship &
ending Bill Ballance's 7 Year Streak,
but anything can happen and Ballance
has the odds on his side |
Last
year you were on your Honda, was there a big
difference between the Honda and the Can-Am?
The Can-Am has so much power. It gets you
out of the gate quicker. Plus they do all
the work on the bikes at the track so that
helps out a lot. It’s awesome because
I don’t have to put a lot of time into
wrenching on the bikes. I just go up and run
it. They did a great job this year!
You’re
a hot commodity now that Honda has kind of
dropped their support for you this season,
have you been contacted by anyone?
Yeah, I’ve been contacted by just about
everyone. I’m going to just kind of
wait and see. I should know in about a month
or so what I’m going to be on. Then
start testing and dialing it in, but right
now I’m just waiting to see who has
the best deal, and a bike that’s working
good.
Congratulations
on your win today and thank you for talking
to us!
Thank you!
