Interview:
Harold Goodman - Honda TRX 450R Pro ATV Racer
- continued
Harold
Goodman isn't just fast on an ATV, he
is also a fairly good motcorss motorcycle
rider as well, and he does some of his
training on a Honda CRF450
You’ve
raced Pont de Vaux before. Are you planning
on going back to France to race it again?
I would really like to go back over there
and do it again, but it’s not going
to work out this season because of all the
other races that I have going on. I’ve
been there about 7 times and won there once
with Tim Farr and Shane Hitt. That was like
10 years ago, so I would really like to go
back and race it again.
Have
you made any changes to your training program
this year?
I’ve put a little more effort into my
training during the off-season. Instead of staying
home and training, I went down to Texas and
stayed at Dee Manshack’s place and trained
and rode down there. I think it helped me quite
a bit. It also fits my plans for this coming
winter so I’ll probably head back down
there like I did last year.
In
2006 Harold Goodman won the New Zealand
National Championship over Doug Gust
& Kory Ellis
What
do you hope to accomplish this year besides
holding onto your Pro ATV Extreme Dirt Track
Title?
Going into the season I was really hoping to
get into the top 5 in the AMA ATVA MX Nationals.
I had king of a bad weekend at the last round
and it looked like I was losing ground, but
after this weekend, it looks like I’m
tied for 6th in points. I’m only 1 point
away from 5th and 4 points away from 4th, so
I’m trying to work my way back into the
top five.
You
race Motocross, TT, GNCC, and desert; basically
you do all types of racing. Do you have a
preference?
Not really. As far as racing is concerned
I like doing them all equally, but if I was
just going to go out riding for a day I’d
prefer to ride on a motocross track. However,
to go to an event and race, I really like
all of them.
Have
you been talking to any factories about support
for next year or are you planning on staying
a privateer?
I’m pretty happy with the support I
have now. I haven’t really been talking
to anyone, but I’m sure there’s
going to be some options out there. What I’m
hoping to do is stick with Honda and maybe
get a little bit more support from them. My
program is working really well and I hope
I don’t need to change it for any reason.
Where
do you see yourself in racing in the next
few years?
I’m sure I’ll be racing. My plan
is to just keep at it until I can’t
compete anymore or I’m getting in all
the young guy’s way. I have been improving
every season. Even in the EDT series I feel
that I’m faster than I was last season
and I’m definitely doing better in motocross
this year than I was last year. As long as
I can keep improving, I’m going to keep
doing it.
Thanks
for talking to us today, Harold!
Thank you!
