Clearville, PA (7/23/2014)- Pro ATV Racer Nick Moser experienced a terrible accident that took place at the fifth round of the Mtn Dew ATV Motocross Championship Racing Series. After getting Life Lined to the closest hospital, Moser was diagnosed with six broken ribs, a bruised liver, two fractured heels, and he was bleeding internally from two ribs puncturing his lung. Nick Moser stayed strong though out the hospitalization and is now on the road to recovery and getting back on an ATV.

We had a chance to catch up with this tough racer at Breezewood Proving Grounds Dream Camp where Nick Moser participated as an instructor.

ATVriders.com: You definitely gave everyone a scare at the Briarcliff MX National, so what exactly happened, and how are you recovering since the wreck.
Nick Moser: Briarcliff wasn’t a good weekend. I ended up coming over the front of the ATV over one of the camel hump triples and ended up getting knocked out. I had a seizure, broke six ribs with two of them going through one of my lungs and I had internal bleeding. They Medevac’d me to the closest hospital, and I got a chest tube put in, and I spent two weeks in the hospital just trying to recover. Now I’m making a big recovery, I’m really happy with it, and the doctors are all really happy. I’ve just been trying to stay active and get better and we’ll see what pans out for next year, hopefully I’ll have some good news coming winter time.

ATVriders.com: During your stay in the hospital you started a GoFundMe account, tell me how that’s working out for you.
Nick Moser: Definitely! Joel Hetrick actually started it for me and it’s awesome, and I ended up raising $6,700 dollars from everyone that put into that and I really appreciate it immensely. Thankfully for my father, I have good medical insurance, but I still have to pay 10% on my own and they are thinking it’s going to be around fifty grand or so for the total, but thanks to everyone who’s helped me out so far. FTR Powersports, has been raising a lot of money for me and a lot of people have been helping out and I really appreciate it.

ATVriders.com: You made your return to the Nationals at Unadilla, and you were even on the event t-shirt, how about that?
Nick Moser: Yeah that was awesome! First one ever, especially as a Pro, me and Josh Creamer were both on it. I think I spent like $500 on T-shirts buying them up, I bought them for all of my friends and family. It’ll definitely be one to hang up on the wall and I’m hoping it won’t be my last one either.

ATVriders.com: There were thoughts that you may retire after this accident, but what are your thoughts now that you’re back on your feet?
Nick Moser: Yeah, well, everyone says that I quit when they are laid up or in the hospital, and it was a tough two weeks for me, which was not fun at all with constant pain. My mom and just my whole family had a big scare with it, but we’ll see what happens. It’s the consequences of this sport, I’ve been hurt before and I knew it wasn’t going to be the last time, so I’m not mad about it. It happens to everyone, no one goes through the sport of motocross and doesn’t get hurt at least once. We’ll see what happens this winter and get some stuff going and hopefully will be on that gate drop coming from Georgia.

With his crash at ATV Motocross Round 5, Nick Moser will more than likely have to sit out the rest of the season due to his injuries to make a full recovery

ATVriders.com: How much of a surprise was it for you to see how far of a reach you have in this community from all of the support coming back your way?
Nick Moser: You know it’s crazy how many people reached out to me. I’ve had so many people saying their thoughts and prayers to me that I never thought I had that many fans. All of the money that I’ve raised from fans, and people who may not even be a fan but reached out to say kind words. You know, enemies, friends, rivals in the sport that we do, it’s a big family and people pull together in tough times, it’s just awesome.

After recovering in the hospital for two weeks after the accident, Nick Moser came out to Breezewood Proving Grounds to help instruct at Dream Camp

ATVriders.com: Are you enjoying your time as a trainer during the Breezewood Proving Grounds Dream Camp?
Nick Moser: Yeah, Dream Camp. It’s been awesome, it’s my second day here and it’s my first time doing it. It’s a little different not being on the bike to show the kids first hand but I’m having fun with it. Dustin Wimmer helped me with a couple sessions that way I didn't have to talk as much, because of my lung, but I’m having fun and teaching a lot of new kids. It’s awesome to see them progress each day and getting better and better.

Although Nick Moser could not physically show students how it was done on an ATV, he made the most of what he could giving tips and advice to up-and-coming racers

ATVriders.com: And finally, when are we going to see you at the races again?
Nick Moser: I’ll definitely be at Loretta’s and hopefully at Red Bud, I have a couple ways of getting out there and I’ll be hanging with the Hetrick crew and just wanting to go hangout and see everyone and I’d rather be there than sitting at home.

I need to give a big thanks to everyone, my parents first of all for sticking with me through all of the years of this, Ernie with FTR Powersports and the whole family, Hetrick Racing with Rick and Michelle, Corrosion, RATH Racing, Walsh Racecraft, Elka Suspension, RAGE ATV, Yoshimura, Root River, SF Racing, Montgomeryville Cycle Center, Troy Lee Designs, ATVRiders.com, Ripitup Films, Number One ATV, and everyone else who helps me out, it’s just awesome.
