250X/300EX engine power/torque?

Does anybody knows for sure (no guessing) how much
H.P. / torque did the old 87-89 TRX 250x engines had?

Or for that matter how much H.P. / torque the TRX 300 EX's had?

I need as accurate info as possible. I'm needing an air cooled, reliable, 25 H.P. 4 stroke engine for a project. I'm not having very good luck finding a 350X engine and wiring for a great price, budget is not plentiful. So I'm turning to you guys for help, but only if you have absolute and verifiable information.

im pretty sure a 300ex has about 16 hp stock

WOW!!!! It has a lot less than I thought it would. It feels a lot stronger than 16 H.P. tho. But I guess I need more. It's pretty weak then, the old Honda 200cc engines (ATC 200X, XR200, etc)had about 18-19 H.P. and had very good torqe. Not to mention they weight 30 pounds less.

Anyone knows where I can get more info on this?

yea it is surprising... my race 300ex maybe has 30hp, maybe. thats with a full national kit basically. i guess with a 14:1 piston and all the other stuff done, i wouldnt really call it reliable. and plus you would to drop like a grand into or more just for the parts.

Yeah, thats a really good thread. I've read it a few times.
It does not really help in my search of info tho.
I'm needing solid and concrete info on the stock H.P. and torque numbers on the 250X and 300EX HONDA engines.

Theres quite a lot of people here, I'm hoping that somebody have this info. It's amazing that this is so hard to come by.
If sombody can point me in the right direction, I'd really apreciate it.

i just did a search and several sources said 17hp from a stock 300ex.


a 400ex stock has about 29hp, maybe that will best fit your application??

I know the 250x/300ex's don't make no 25 HPs stock, so i would go with a 400ex. They are around 27hp stock.

It could be 25hp at the crank and 17 at the wheels. But I kinda dout, it that is a big loss through the drive line.

A 400ex is around 25hp stock . I have dozens of dyno charts proving that. I will see if I can find a 300ex chart but I know they are around 17hp stock and if heavily modded can be made as powerful as a stock 400ex but reliabily is gone.
