For 2014, the Yamaha YFZ450R received new styling, and it just wasn’t for improved appearance. The changes were made to make the YFZ450R even easier and more comfortable to ride.

The new fenders allow for the rider to move farther forward on the seat without hitting your knees on the fenders, which have been moved forward and slightly lowered for more legroom. Also, more plastic has been added along the frame to provide more comfort for your knees.
The rear fenders were raised up inline with the seat, which makes it easier to transition from side to side when craving the dunes, and the heel guards have been moved back, so it allowed us to get further back on the foot pegs with only our toes on the pegs for added traction with climbing the dunes.

We were also able to test out the new A&S
clutch down some the rutted out down hills because
the dunes were as rough as we have ever experienced
with tracks everywhere. While the slipping
function of the clutch could be felt, it was
subtle in the sand, but we could really feel
it working during our initial test ride on the
motocross track this past summer, which was
more hard pack with braking bumps.
As for the 2014 Yamaha YFZ450R engine, it has
plenty of power and it felt even more comfortable
with the engine updates. We had a chance to ride
the SE with the GYTR performance upgrades, which
really made a huge difference in the performance
of the YFZ450R, and it was even easier to ride
with a noticeable increase in power as it made
all the difference in the world when climbing
up the famous “China Wall.”
The GYTR Yamaha YFZ450R went right up it every
time with ease with a 230lb rider.

We once again has a great time riding the Yamaha YFZ450R SE and Raptor 700R SE at the Glamis Sand Dunes media event as this is one event that we look forward to attending each year. It is great to see Yamaha continuing to make improvements to their Yamaha sport ATV models, which is why the YFZ450R and Raptor 700R are among the top selling sport ATV models.
