Washington,
GA (3/23/2014)
– The Opening round of the 2014 Mtn Dew
AMA ATV Pro Motocross Championship season was
one for the record books with some of the most
intense racing in recent memory among the top
five pro racers, which kept the race fans glued
to the edge of the track waiting for what would
happen next, but once again, Chad Wienen kicked
off the Pro Motocross season with the overall
win. The “Ironman” John Natalie Jr. claimed the
moto two win for the second overall, and Can-Am’s
Joel Hetrick finished in third.
Wienen Motorsports Chad Wienen kicked off the
day by claiming a point toward the $1,000 ATVriders.com
Fastest Qualifier Award.
|
“Getting
that fastest qualifier is always good,
and they have the new format for it at
the end of the year, so we got some incentive
to go out there and try to get it every
weekend to collect that extra cash,” said
Chad Wienen

In Moto One, Chad Wienen found himself eating
plenty of roost for most of the moto, but Wienen
took over the lead in the final laps to secure
the win over Joel Hetrick.

In Moto two, Chad Wienen came out in the second
spot behind John Natalie, but despite his best
efforts, he wasn’t able to make a pass on Natalie
stick, and he stayed within one second of Natalie
the entire moto to finish in the second spot for
the overall win to maintain the red number one
plate.
|
“It’s always
a good thing to start the season off strong
and we’re leaving here with the red plate
again. That’s how it all starts you know,
and I keep telling myself we’re gonna
run this red plate the whole year long.
It’s a long year and we’re going to take
them one at a time,” said Chad Wienen

DASA Racing’s John Natalie Jr. claimed SSi Decals
holeshot award points in both motos for a combined
four points toward the year end $2,500 Championship
Award.
|
“The two
holeshots were huge! I mean that’s part
of the battle, I may not have been the
fastest guy out there today, but I was
the smartest pulling those holeshots and
it’s always part of it getting out front
and trying to put them all behind you,"
said John Natalie

John Natalie raced a flawless moto two by keeping
Chad Wienen behind him the entire moto despite
some intense pressure.
|
"I could
definitely hear the bikes revving and
running behind me that second moto. I
was riding defensive, so I wasn't able
to pull away like I wanted to, but was
able to get the win. I knew there were
four or five guys behind me, so it slowed
me down to try and ride defensive, making
sure no one stuck a wheel in on me, and
it worked out good to the finish,"
said John Natalie
