2015 Daytona ATV Supercross
Pro Race Report
::Continued::
Nick Gennusa was looking good as he came off
the start in mid-pack. Gennusa moved into the
number five spot and pressured Joe Byrd for fourth,
but was not able to make a pass. Gennusa stayed
close however and rounded out the top five overall.
“I feel good about getting a top five in my first
pro race. Joe Byrd was in front of me and he is
tough to get around. I thought he would fade,
but he didn’t. I’ve been training in Texas and
it’s a lot colder there and it is warm here today
so that kind of got to me a bit. This has been
amazing for me and I just have to thank AGX Designs,
Walsh and Fox, they are my three main sponsors
for this year and they help me out a lot,” said
Gennusa.

Nick Gennusa made an impressive Pro debut
by rounding out the top five at the Daytona
ATV SX |
Yamaha mounted Thomas Brown was a favorite for
making it to the podium, but as luck would have
it, that didn’t happen. Brown had a great start
and was in the top three, but as they headed into
the first rhythm section, Brown came up short
and went down hard. Brown’s was down but not out
and made a hard charge from the back of the pack
to take a respectable sixth place finish.

Root River’s Josh Upperman had issues in his
heat race, but looked strong in the LCQ as he
grabbed the holeshot and gave Chad Wienen a good
fight. Upperman however was at the back of the
pack off the start when he got hung up on the
tough blocks, but he was able to make it up to
seventh place before reaching the checkered flag.
Adam Clark had a solid race and came from outside
of the top ten to finish in eighth, while Argentinian
racer, Vital Cazenave finished in ninth and Tyler
Hamrick rounded out the top ten.
Liquid Wrench/JB Racing’s Jeffrey Rastrelli,
claimed the fastest lap time in qualifiers with
a time of 01:02.780 and looked as if he could
possibly take his first ever Pro win. Rastrelli
had a great start in second behind John Natalie
and in the third lap, attempted a pass. The pair
connected and Rastrelli was shut down. Before
he could get ready to try again, Rastrelli came
up on the same section where Thomas Brown crashed
and also went down. His mishap ended his day early.
“I had a great start, but John was on it today,
and he got me. I lost a contact out there and
couldn’t see well and just made a little mistake
and went down. I have a great program in place,
probably the best I have ever had. I am trying
to step it up and make these guys proud,” said
Rastrelli.
The next round of the 2015 AMA ATV Motocross
Championships will head to Echeconnee MX in Lizella,
GA, where the race for pro championship points
will heat up as Chad Wienen will be defending
his championship status from the likes of John
Natalie Jr. and host of other up and coming young
pro racers.
