Mine Made Paradise Park, KY - A lot of people think of mining coal as a harmful, earth scaring, act that does just one thing, provide us with an energy source. The truth is, there is a whole lot more to it than just an energy source, and it does not destroy the earth. In fact, it does the exact opposite. In many rural parts of the United States like Knott County Kentucky; it creates many opportunities for economic development, jobs, and tourism just to name a few.

Located in Eastern Kentucky, Knott County lays in the heartland of the Application Mountains. Once, this area was full of un-accessible land that was not being used and the economy reflected this. After many delegations, a strip mine was set in place and it was the answer to its failing economy.

Mine Made Paradise Park get its name from the strip-mines that were built in Knott County, Kentucky in order to boost the economy some years ago & many more areas have benefited from it as well such as Schools, libraries, & an ATV Saftey Training Facility
Today, Knott County is one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. Based around the reclaimed lands of the strip mines, the economy in the area is growing faster than ever before. The after effects of strip mining provided a place for new land development and opportunities to attract many kinds of adventure tourism. The coal companies also provided many kickbacks that helped fund many schools, fire departments, libraries, a sports complex, and even an ATV Saftey Training Facility.

Through legal agreements between landowners Western Pocahontas and International Coal Group (ICG) the Mine Made Paradise Park was a reality.

We recently were graciously invited by Kawasaki to check out what Knott County had to offer for us four-wheel enthusiasts and to get a sneak preview Mine Made Paradise Park. The property that is Mine Made Paradise Park measures a staggering 43,000 acres of privately owned land. Judge Randy Thompson and the Knott County Fiscal Court decided to hire Strategic Advantage Marketing to design a 40 mile trail loop that starts and ends at the ATV Saftey Training Center located at the center of the park.

Our 40 mile “sneak preview” of the trail system S.A.M. is implementing consisted of old haul roads where they used to haul the coal out of the mountain top, small access roads lower in the valleys, tight winding trails with many changes in elevations, and scenic mountain trails that you could across the mountain ranges for miles.

The trail system is spot on as well with many different signs denoting where to go & to what level of skill is required to conquer each trail
Not only is there going to be many hundreds of miles for OHVs but there is going to be separate trails just for horseback riding. This will eliminate any OHV and horse crossing each other’s paths. “We do two things when we build our trails. We build them safe #1 and to be adventurous #2. We slow people down by design we limit their sight line, and change grades and elevations often to make the trails more interesting and fun for the rider” said Bill Reed President of the Off Road Division at S.A.M..
