La Crosse, WI (3/27/2015) - Root River Racing’s amateur team came on strong at round one of the 2015 Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross Championships where Tyler Mack and Noah Mickelson took wins in their classes.

A tough track was waiting for the Root River Racing team at Echeconne MX in Lizella, GA, but the team was ready for action and had strong results on Saturday. Unfortunately, the race weekend was cut short due to inclement weather and the cancellation of all the amateur racing motos on Sunday besides a single moto Pro-Am main event.

Root River Racing’s Dylan Tremellen made the jump to Pro-am for 2015 and had a great start to the season in the Pro-am class. “I had last gate pick, but I ended up second off the start. I got passed, but his quad broke, so I got back into second,” said Tremellen

Once back into second, Tremellen held a solid, fast pace and finished five seconds ahead of third place. “It’s kind of a mental game making the switch to Pro-am this season and I was kind of nervous, but I was able to do well and I am really happy with my finish,” said Tremellen.

Tremellen also did well in the Pro Sport class. Tremellen had a great start as he grabbed the holeshot and led for the first lap. Tremellen fought hard and crossed the finish line in third place. “It was pretty cool to pull the start like that. I am really excited to be back with the Root River Team. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be racing Nationals,” said Tremellen.

Root River Racing’s Sam Rowe had a good weekend for his first round of Nationals. Rowe had a strong performance in the Pro Sport class after a mid-pack start. Rowe charged through traffic and recorded the fastest lap time of the race with a time of 01:33.878 in the second lap. Rowe’s lap times stayed fast and he was able to work his way to second place before crossing the finish line. “I didn’t get a good start, but I was able to get up to second. I had fast lap times, but I ran out of time,” said Rowe.

In the Pro-am class, Rowe also did well. “I had a good start and was running in third but I stalled out and fell back,” said Rowe. Despite the setback, Rowe charged back up through the pack and rounded out the top five.

Haedyn Mickelson had strong finishes in both the 450A and Production A classes. In the 450 A class, Mickelson had a good start an immediately went to work, picking off the competition one by one. Mickelson charged his way into second on the white flag lap and chased down the leader. Mickelson challenged for the lead but ran out of time before he could make a pass stick and finished in second place.

“I had a good race. I caught up to the leader and tried to get by but it didn’t happen. I’m still happy with my performance. I have been training hard over the winter, and I have the stamina to push hard all the way to the end, so I think that is going to be an advantage for me this year,” said Mickelson.

Haedyn Mickelson didn’t get the start he wanted but that didn’t stop him from breaking into the top five. “I had a bad start and I got stuck behind a few other riders and by the time I got up to fourth, the top three guys were pretty far ahead, and I didn’t have enough time to chase them down,” said Mickelson, who finished in the number four spot.

Root River Racing’s Tyler Mack took his first win of the season in the Production B class. Mack grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. Mack recorded the fastest lap time of the race in the third lap with a time of 01:38.126, and took the win by over eight seconds ahead of second place.

Tyler Mack also had a strong performance in the 450 B class and took second in his heat race, but with the adjusted results with the one moto format, Mack ended his day with a fourth place finish.

Noah Mickelson claimed his first victory of the season in the Schoolboy Sr. class. Mickelson was in second off the start and took over the lead in lap two. Mickelson charged hard and took the win by over six second ahead of the competition. “Just after the first lap, I passed for the lead. I tried not to make any mistakes and it paid off for me. I’m really happy to take the win, and I can’t wait for the next round,” said Mickelson.

Noah Mickelson also had good results in the Youth All Star class. Mickelson led for the first lap after a great start. After a heated battle he ended his day in second in his heat race. With the one moto format in place for the day, he claimed third overall.

Johannah Vossman had a solid fourth place finish in the Schoolgirl class. “I had a lot of fun out there.  My quad ran awesome and I really can’t wait for Texas. I am very happy to be back with Root River this year. They are such a good group and we all work together to help each other, and we have amazing sponsors,” said Vossman, who also raced in the Youth All Star class and finished 18th.

Dalton Hicks, who had a crash at the Daytona Supercross and dislocated his shoulder, was not able to race at the season opener, but he will be back in action for round two in Texas.
