La Crosse, WI (6/23/2015) - Root
River Racing’s Alex Gillette dominated Round 6 of
the Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross National Championship
June 13th at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut IL. Gillette
won the 450B Class and finished second in Production
B. With heavy rain on Sunday, all the second motos
were cancelled
The Sunset Ridge MX round was just Gillette’s
third race back in competition after suffering
a wrist injury. “I just got the hang of my machine
and I’ve really been training,” said Gillette,
who nabbed the holeshot in both races. “This was
best weekend so far, and I’m really pumped. I
have all the confidence in the world, and I’m
just ready to tear it up.” Gillette is excited
to be headed to his home track next weekend in
Minnesota. “I’ve been training a lot with (Pro
Rider) Josh Upperman,” said Gillette. “I’m hoping
for a repeat next round.”
Megan Manshack grabbed her fifth consecutive
victory in the Women Class. After grabbing second
at the start, Manshack charged her way to the
front to take the win. “It felt amazing taking
another win, and it put me a little bit closer
to what could be my second national title,” said
Manshack. “The track was a blast like always,
and it couldn't have handled the rain any better.
I am looking forward to Minnesota, and I am hoping
the weather is a lot more cooperative so we can
have a great weekend of racing.”
Sam Rowe finished second in Pro Sport, and his
Pro-Am race was cancelled on Sunday due to rain.
Rowe was pleased with his result in Pro Sport
as it helped him gain some ground in the Pro Sport
Championship. He currently sits fifth in points,
just 21 markers behind the leader. “I got a good
start from the outside,” said Rowe, who led the
race for the first three laps before being passed
by eventual winner Cam Covil. “Cam and I battled
for the first few laps. He got by me and we held
on for second. I was trying for the win, but the
rain affected that. I really wish we could have
run on Sunday.”
Johannah Vossman finished third in Schoolgirl
(13-17) and was 11th in Youth All Star (13-15).
“This weekend was a decent one, but we didn’t
have any practice on Friday and morning practice
was a muddy mess, so I didn't go out for it,”
said Vossman. “I had back-to-back motos, so I
came off track and went straight to the gate for
the Schoolgirl race. Honestly, I can't thank Root
River enough for keeping my bike 100%.”
Brandon O’Neill finished second in 90 Open Sr.
(12-15), as well as earning a third-place finish
in 90 Shifter (12-15). He finished eighth in Super
Mini (12-15). “This weekend was really good as
far as points go,” said O’Neill who sits second
in both 90 Open Sr. and 90 Shifter points. “The
mud and rain was a factor in all of the races.
They called the race after one lap in 90 Shifter
due to rain, and we were happy to be in the right
place to finish third. We’re looking forward to
Millville and getting back into action.”
Tyler Mack finished fifth in 450 B, as well grabbing
a fourth-place finish in Production B, padding
his points lead in that class. Mack currently
sits second in the 450 B title chase.
Haedyn Mickelson finished second in the 450 A
class and currently sits second in points. Mickelson
finished fourth in Production A and currently
sits fourth in points in that class.
Dalton Hicks came away with two top five finishes
with a fourth place overall in Production A and
fifth overall in 450 A while Tommy Vossman finished
sixth in Open B and eleventh overall in Production
B.
