Downey, CA (10/13/2016) - Can-Am
/ ITP / Lonestar Racing’s Jason and Derek
Murray had a strong start, but mechanical issues
slowed their charge during the Bluewater Desert
Challenge Best in the Desert race in Parker,
AZ. The Murray brothers were running their second
race in Can-Am’s new X3 Turbo in the SXS Turbo
Class.
The two-day race was held in the desert surrounding
the Bluewater Resort and Casino. After a strong
start, axle problems forced them to slow their
pace to ensure a finish and to protect their
points lead.

team overcame issues to claim yet another
finish at the BITD Series to stay in
the UTV Turbo class championship points
battle |
“We came into this race with high expectations;
we really thought we could win,” said Derek
Murray. “We didn’t know, however, that this
would be the hardest course we’d put this
new Can-Am X3 through. We were 11 miles from
the finish when we lost our last two axles.
We’re trying to improve those areas, pushing
the limits, and sometimes that doesn’t work
the way you want it to. We limped it into
the finish to keep our finishing streak alive
in BITD. The points are really close and we’ll
see what happens at the last race of the year.”
Jason Murray won the Vegas to Reno event
in the Can-Am X3’s debut. After that race,
they continued to develop the car, but took
a small step backward.

all new Can-Am Maverick X3 |
“In order to make a new car better, you have
to test the limits, and sometimes you take
a step back,” said Derek Murray. “We took
a step back today. The car runs awesome. Even
with problems here, we still got past a lot
of cars. The Fox bypass shocks really makes
it run better than anything I’ve ever driven.
The ITP Tires were perfect today. We didn’t
have one flat, and our goal is to work on
reliability. Once we get the reliability down,
this car is going to be an animal.”
Jason Murray said the team knows the nature
of the issue and they’ll be ready for the
next race. The Murrays are still well in contention
for the BITD title.
“Today didn’t go according to plan,” explained
Jason Murray. “We tried some new things on
the X3. We had to limp it, but we were glad
to finish. The car is quick. This X3 pulls
hard and it’s only going to get better from
here. Once we work on this axle situation,
this car is going to come to life and we’ll
be on the box multiple times next season.”
The Murrays will be looking to clinch the
2016 Turbo Class Championship as BITD heads
to Pahrump Nevada for the season finale December
1-4.
