Alaska Backcountry Adventure Ride
::Continued::
For our adventure, we opted for a half-day tour, which started out early in the morning. Our tour was to include wooded trails, glacier views and wildlife. For the beginning of our tour, the air was quite crisp with a temperature of about 32 degrees, but it was absolutely beautiful. While most of Alaska had past its peak for fall colors, Palmer, Alaska was a little late so we were treated to spectacular fall foliage at its peak.
|
Although for most of Alaska, the fall foliage already hit its peak, we arrived just in time to witness the beauty of the autumn colors in Palmer, Alaska |
Our tour guide Louie was great. He was friendly, outgoing and had so much knowledge of the area and the wildlife, which made our trip even more enjoyable. As we got ready to head out, we had a Honda Pioneer 700 and Honda Rincon ready and waiting for us.

Alaska
Backcountry Adventure Tours does a great
job of going over how to safely operate
an ATV or SxS before the trail ride begins
because for many tourist this is a their
first time driving an off-road vehicle.
Also, they provide all the proper safety
gear including Helmets, eye protetion, boots,
and rain gear if needed |
As our tour started we had to ride down the shoulder of a few streets to get to the trailhead.
|
We rode along the shoulder of the roads in Palmer, AK to reach the trail head |
Just to prove that Alaska has tons of wildlife, as we approached the trailhead, in the hills just above us were a group of Dall Sheep, which resemble Big Horn Sheep except they are white in color.
|
Within minutes of our ride, we spotted a group of Dall Sheep on the side of the mountain |
Seeing them was a great way to start our adventure. “The sheep were beautiful, every time we went by, it seemed that there were even more of them,” said Forrest Mankins.
