Canyon of the Eagles Resort & Hidden Falls Adventure Park Review

Canyon of the Eagles Resort Review
::Continued::

There are plenty of things to do at Canyon of the Eagles including hiking, kayaking, canoeing, river cruises, and our favorite, the Eagle Eye Observatory.

As an added bonus, the Canyon of the Eagles Resort also features one of the top ranking observatories in the US free of charge for all guests! The Eagles Eye Observatory a offers research quality 16-inch Ealing "Educator" Cassegrain Telescope & 12.5-inch Newtonian telescope to observe the night sky over Texas

The Eagle Eye Observatory is a part of the Austin Astronomical society and is free to guests of the resort. The observatory, which is listed as one of the top ten observatories by USA Today, has two telescopes that guests can use; a 16-inch Ealing "Educator" Cassegrain Telescope offers research-quality views of the moon and distant stars, while the 12.5-inch Newtonian telescope offers a vibrant eye on the night sky. The facility practices dark sky protocol, which keeps light usage at the facility to a minimum so it is easier to see the night sky. That protocol is also why you are given a flash light with your room keys.

If star gazing isn’t really your thing, there are plenty of daytime activities and nature lovers are in for a treat with the many miles of trails and abundant flora and fauna.

Canyon of the Eagles Resort - Bald Eagle
The Canyon of the Eagles Resort & Nature Park gets its name from the Bald Eagles that nest there from October to March

“We have over 14 miles of hiking trails and five miles of those are also used for recreational biking. The trails wrap around the lake shore and are great for bird watching,” said Cindy Bower, who gave us some background information and a nice tour of the facility.

We were curious as to how the facility got its name and Cindy was happy to explain that for us. “We have bald eagles that winter here from October through March and sometimes, if we’re lucky, they stay through April,” she said.

While some resorts have peak times during the year to visit, Canyon of the Eagles has plenty to offer any time of the year. “In the winter it is just as beautiful if not more so. In the spring we have the Blue Bonnets that bloom and add a lot of beauty to the area, but there is always something blooming, whether it’s cacti, Blue Bonnets or whatever. There is always something to look at here,” Cindy added.

It was a great place for us to spend out first night. After an amazing dinner and a good night’s sleep, we headed out to meet up with the guys at Hidden Falls Adventure Park and the local Polaris dealership, Kawasaki of Marble Falls.
