Although Elka can produce suspension to meet manufacturer specs, Elka is known for hand building shock to each individual rider’s preferences. When an individual orders from Elka, their shocks are custom built to order depending on their riding style, aftermarket components they are running, terrain they ride on, machine they ride / drive, and rider weight.

“There are over 5,000 combinations of valving, springs, body, shaft, pistons, and adjusters that all go into play when building shocks for each order. There is a lot of thinking that goes behind every set of shocks and it takes time to produce each set of shocks,” said Elka’s Yann Guilbeault.

Since there are so many combinations, Elka uses an assembly like manufacturing system. When shocks are ordered parts are pulled from the inventory room and sub assembled. Each shock can have fifty or more parts that go into sub assembly. The sub-assembled shocks are then placed in a bin where another person then pulls all the custom parts that are needed.
