1st Annual
SxS / UTV Glamis Sand Dunes Industry Ride Event
::Continued::
If you’re unfamiliar with Glamis and the
typical goings on there, Gecko road is the place
to be for sand drags. It’s no organized
event but on a busy weekend, thousands of duners
will line the sides of it and anyone that wants
to line it up can do so and earn bragging rights
until the next holiday weekend.

Their
was an all-new Arctic Cat WildCat 1000 HO
on had ripping up the dunes |
Polaris RZR XP 900 UTV outfitted with a
tricked out Pro Armor grill |
As evening approached we made a plan to head
for Gecko road to watch the drags however a broken
belt and the ensuing 30-45 minutes that it took
to replace it kept us from making it out there.
By the time they got it fixed, the sun was setting
and we were all getting hungry.

El
Rey del Taco catered delicious tacos at
the 1st annual Glamis SxS / UTV Industry
Ride |
What could possibly make a great day of duning
with your friends any better? How bout an amazing
catered taco feast to quench the appetite of dozens
of hungry duners. Dave brought out a local taco
wagon from El Centro to feed the gang and feed
us they did. By the time it was all said and done
I had six tacos, plenty of rice and beans and
finished it off with one more helping of carne
asada. I definitely went straight for the kill
on that last round.

A
bonfire was made at Oldsmobile Hill where
many stories were shared about the ride
at Glamis Sand Dunes |
Rather than remain at camp for our last night
of the event, we loaded up some firewood in Jon
Crowley’s Kawasaki Teryx 4 SxS and brought
the bonfire to Oldsmobile Hill. There’s
something special about sitting around a campfire
trading stories from the weekend while watching
people drag up one of the most famous hills in
the world. (At least it is to the ATV and side
by side community.)
By Sunday morning people were beginning to head
out but a few of us wanted to get one last dune
run in. The smaller group size allowed us to stay
closer together and really get moving. We stopped
for photos at a couple different spots and a few
of the guys had a jump off to see who could go
the highest and the farthest.

A
heavy RV can fall victim to the soft sand
at Glamis, luckily you can call Glamis Beach
Towing to pull your rig out of the sand
if you find yourself stuck! |
As is usually the case, the weekend was far too
short and went by way to fast. Everyone seemed
to have a good time and based on the turnout,
next years event looks to be bigger and better.
Dave and Jon put a lot of work into promoting
the event and hope that more companies get on
board and come out next year. Not only is it a
nice reminder of why we spend so many hours doing
what we do every day, but it’s a great opportunity
to meet other companies within the industry, build
networks and ultimately help our sport grow.

With
thousands of acers of sand it is known as
the "Sand Toy Capital of the World"! |
All in all, the industry ride event was a great
success, and the word on the street while everyone
was packing up was that next year is going to
be bigger and better. A big thanks to Dave Kuskie,
Jon Crowley and all the companies that helped
make this event possible:
Fullerton Sand Sports, UTVGuide.net, Pro Armor,
SDR Motorsports, TMW Offroad, DWT, Berts Mega
Mall, GBC Motorsports, Benchmark Performance,
Placerville Polaris, Ad Performance, UTV Action
Magazine, Sand Sport Magazine, Royal Purple synthetic
