AMA ATV Motocross Nationals Pro ATV Race Report
::Continued::

Russell Shumaker also had mechanical issues that put him out of contention. Kawasaki’s Keith Little, who thought he had his mechanical issues worked out at the starting line, also had problems that put a damper on things for him as well and Sage Baker took a digger in the 2nd corner, which put him towards the back of the pack.

John Natalie - CanAm DS450 ATV
Despite an eye infection, John Natalie was still on the charge as he earned an 8th Overall on the weekend
John Natalie was running a consistent mid pack race and holding off Greg Gee while Josh Creamer and Jeremy Lawson were busy working their way through traffic. By the 8th lap, Lawson and Creamer were running 5th and 6th where they would stay for the remainder of the race. “Everything went good out there. Creamer and I were in pretty decent race, but I was able to hold him off,” said Lawson who, like Creamer, is looking forward to a round with no mud.

Meanwhile, Byrd was running uncontested in 1st, with Wimmer in a comfortable 2nd. As soon as it looked like Wimmer was closing in, Byrd would shut him down. Another reason Byrd was keeping his lead was that he was the only one who was consistently hitting the nasty uphill triple that many riders chose to just double into. Byrd went on to claim his first win of the season. “It feels real good to take the win. We had some bad luck at the beginning of the season, but I think that’s all behind us now,” said the 2x defending champ. All though the competition has stepped up a bit this year, Byrd is confident that things will go his way.

Doug Gust - Suzuki LTR450 ATV
Jeremy Lawson - Can-Am Epic Racing
Suzuki's Doug Gust just missed the Podium, but his 4th place finish now has him sitting in 2nd Place in Points with a 26 point lead over John Natalie in 3rd
Epic / Can-Am's Jeremy Lawson finally put together two good motos to earn a 5th overall, which moves him up to 9th place in points

Wimmer followed Byrd in 2nd place with Josh Upperman in 3rd, Harold Goodman in 4th and Jeremy Lawson in 5th. Josh Creamer ended the 2nd Moto in 6th place, followed by Doug Gust, Jason Dunkelberger, Cody Miller and Jasmin Plante.

Byrd took the overall with an impressive 1-1 win. Second overall was Dustin Wimmer, who had a 2-2 finish, and Jason Dunkelberger’s 3-8 finishes allowed him to claim the third spot on the podium, his first National podium of his pro career, thanks to the AMA’s new scoring system. “The new scoring system definitely worked to my advantage this time!” said Dunk excitedly.

The next round of the AMA ATV Motocross Nationals will be heading to Walnut, IL where Sunset Ridge MX will play host to the event. Many riders are looking forward to this round due to the sandy conditions of the soil that helps to keep thick mud to a minimum if the weather does not cooperate.
