PRO ATV MOTO Two >> CONTINUED

Chad Wienen, who had come off the line in 7th began picking off riders one by one and worked himself up to 3rd place by the end of the first lap. John Natalie made quick work of Keith Little to take over 2nd in the first lap but he would not be able to catch Byrd who steadily was putting space between him and the rest of the pack. In lap five, Chad Wienen laid down his fastest lap time and took over the number two spot behind Byrd.

French Team Suzuki racer Jeremie Warnia made a big impression in his AMA ATV MX Nationals debut by riding a consistent race in moto two to finish in 10th place. French Canadian racer Jasmine Plante had a tough time of things in moto two when he and Can-Am’s Sage Baker had a close encounter on the back side of the track where Plante spun out and flipped after being rear-ended by Baker. Baker was able to stay on his quad through the ordeal and kept going, but it took about two minutes for Jasmine to get back in the game.

As the checkered flag was waved, Honda’s Joe Byrd was first across the finish line and his 2-1 finish earned him the overall win. “I got some new tires from Dunlop and they worked really good. I got good traction off the start. Everything worked good this weekend,” said Joe, who is looking forward to the final round at Loretta Lynn’s where he hopes to keep his second place points lead over Doug Gust. “Loretta’s is close to home and I always feel confident there so I am really looking forward to it,” he concluded.

Chad Wienen crossed the finish line in second, which put him in second overall; his best finish of the season. Doug Gust claimed the final spot on the podium with his 3-5 finishes. John Natalie took 4th overall and is also looking forward to the final. “I’ve moved closer to 5th in points now and I’m hoping to take a podium finish at Loretta’s to make it in the top five,” the #13 racer said confidently.

Dustin Wimmer rounded out the top five overall and Harold Goodman, who was also testing out some new Houser proto-type motocross tires, claimed 6th. “The new Hoosier’s worked good. I’m really happy with them,” said Harold who is currently 7th in the points race. Josh Upperman came in at 7th overall, and Jason Dunkelberger had a consistent race and claimed 9th overall. Josh Creamer ended his day in 10th overall, but is hoping for an overall win at the final round in two weeks. “I want to take the overall at Loretta’s. It would be awesome to finish the season on a high note.”

Dustin Wimmer's mechanic, Glenn Schlude, was awarded the Dasa Racing's $100 Mechanic of the Race Award, which was well deserved with Wimmer never finishing outside of the top 5 overall

Even though the championship has already been decided, there will still be plenty of action at the final round at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch on August 10th as racers battle to secure their positions in the points race and have one last shot at the podium before the 2008 season concludes.
