Neal McGrath grabs the Holeshot over #28 Jeffery
Rastrelli in Youth Production Moto Two |
Although Echeconne Off-Road Park is to say the least
“a challenge in the sand”, the youth racers
of the MX Nationals always seem to find a way to not
only have fun during the round but to pound out some
of the best racing over the weekend and send some youth
parents to Cardiac Arrest Ville. In the Youth Production
class, Neal McGrath of Florida and Jeffery Rastrelli
of Florida swapped 1st for 2nd in both motos to put
on a show stopping race that had nails being bitten
until the end.
The first moto ended with Rastrelli the victor and McGrath
the runner up. In the second moto, McGrath had the lead
until he cross rutted the track, which slowed down his
charge. This allowed Rastrelli to take the lead. Not wishing
to eat Rastrelli’s roost, McGrath dug deep into
the ruts of Echeconnee, found a line and after a few laps
of sand slinging, nerf bumping, and heart thumping side
by side racing managed to pass Rastrelli for the lead.
At the checkers, McGrath with 2-1 moto scores took the
round win in the class over Rastrelli’s 1-2 moto
scores. Finishing third, another Florida racer Mark Madl
rounded out the pack with a 5-3 moto score for the weekend.
McGrath, the only Youth Production racer to make all four
rounds of this year’s series, lead the overall series
point’s standings with 120 points after the Georgia
round.

In the 90 Production Jr. class, Taylor Seale and his
4-strokin’ Honda from Louisiana, made sand salad
out of the other 7 contestants in the class during Round
4. Seale ran off and left the pack, easily taking both
moto wins for the overall. Following Seale to the podium
in the runner up spot, Chase Horton of Arcadia, SC took
his Cobra to 2-4 moto scores to top the third place
overall finish of Benjamin Brocato and his Muscle Shoals,
AL Honda. Brocato tallied 4-3 moto scores to round out
the podium.

When a young racer cuts his teeth on sand tracks in
Florida it makes sense that they could travel North
to Georgia and tackle a little sand with no problem.
Alexander Hammond of Palm Bay, Florida did just that.
In the 50 Production Auto class, Hammond continued his
’07 MX Nationals winning streak by putting his
fourth victory in the record books. Hammond piloted
his Cobra to 1-1 moto scores to capture his fourth consecutive
event win at Echeconnee and put himself in a commanding
position in the series’ overall point’s
standings. He led second place in the overalls, Cole
Sepesi of Michigan, who, after missing round 2 had amassed
64 points and third in the overalls, Tyler Peters of
Ohio, who also missed round 2, and had managed to add
up 54 points in the overall standings.
