Goes to Pine Mountain for Round 3
::Continued::
Chris Howell graciously offered up one of his
daughters’ machines for Trey Carrell to
race in the 12 Modified class since they were
unable to get any spark out of the machine. Gage
Smith nailed another one of his patented holeshots
followed by a very determined Claire Howell. Smith
and Howell motored away from Carrell but he very
happy to just be in the race. Howell was relentless
in keeping the pressure on Smith and when he splashed
through the creek and got his air filter wet that
was all she needed. As Smiths machine spit and
sputtered Howell made the pass and ran away for
the victory. Smith kept the machine going to hold
on to second and Trey finished third.

Dennis Wilson Overalled the C Program with a
first place finish in the Masters class. Mike
Nichols was only 20 seconds in tow which was good
enough for second Overall. Sonny Amos started
off in the early lead after Nichols tried to use
him for a berm in the first turn but transmission
problems on his Honda forced him to give up the
lead position early in the race. Amos was able
to limp the machine around the course to salvage
third place while Mike Nolan took fourth.
Sarah Sellers took home the gold in the Lady
Open class followed by Bobbie Amos, Cindy Underwood,
and Keristie Miller. The long and challenging
course proved to be difficult enough that the
ladies were only able to get 2 laps in before
time expired. Caleb Hamm went uncontested for
the win in the Youth class.
The Buddy Race was a hoot with Justin Underwood
and Logan James taking the easy victory. The warm-up
racing Justin Underwood does on Saturday in the
Buddy race must be paying off big time, as when
the flag dropped on Sunday, in the 35+ class,
he blasted off to the front of the pack without
hesitation. So far this year once that has happen
nobody has been able to mount a challenge for
the lead. But today was another day and Dan Greene
was motoring through the rocks on a mission. On
the second lap Greene had really found the grove
and reeled in Underwood and made the pass for
the lead just before the scoring chute. We were
all excited to see the two riders set in perfect
position for a duel to the checkered flag.
The excited turned out to be anticlimactic as
Greene sustained a left rear tire flat. Nonetheless,
both riders blistered the race course and Underwood’s
pace was enough for him to not only win the class
but also the Overall in the B Program. Greene
was able to hold on to second and third went to
Anthony Carinci. Matt Horton had began to recover
from his patented last place start and was making
up a lot of ground when all the sudden Nathan
Swift executed a high speed yard sale right in
front of him. Showing a great deal of sportsmanship
Matt slowed down to ask if Nathan needed any help
and he could hear a desperate plea for help as
the machine had him pinned underneath. Matt conceded
his race to help the young rider get free from
this predicament. After all this, Matt was still
able to hold on to fourth place followed by John
Scott and Chris Howell.
