Coming in second was the Polaris duo of Don Higbee and Michael Swift aboard the new 2014 Polaris Scrambler XP 1000. After a long career with Can-am, the team traveled from Wyoming and Tennessee to represent Polaris at the Best in the Desert Series.

In addition to their already impressive machine, Dirt Works Motorsports built an auxiliary fuel tank that held an extra two gallons of gas, which limited the amount of necessary pit stops. Bringing the #440 machine across the line with a time of 4:04:01, the team was excited as they celebrated their podium finish.

"This was the first race on the Polaris Scrambler 1000 and it did very well. It was basically all stock except the tires and wheels and the Flexx bars. It handles well and has good power," Swift stated about his new Polaris ride. Higbee added, "We are really happy with the support Polaris has given us. They want to win and we want to win. Good consistent finishes are going to be the key to it this year."
The Quad Ironman Expert Class saw Tulare, California's Gerald Nunes taking the win aboard his #632 Honda. He finished just over five minutes ahead of #618 Honda rider Steven Carver who took second place for the season opener.

Taking the win in the Quad Ironman Amateur Class was the #662 Yamaha rider of Ron Suor. Although he last the packing and core to his pipe just eighteen miles into the race, he was able to capture the win by over forty-seven minutes. Taking second for the day aboard his #676 Honda was Clark Marcy of Henderson, NV.

With Round one of the 2014 Best in the Desert Series in the books, the racers are gearing up to battle it out for the championships for the next few races. Round Two in March at famous Mint 400, will be sure to offer exciting racing and interesting points battles.
