Best in the Desert Racing Series

Best in the Desert - Silver State 300 - ATV Race Report
::Continued::

David Scott made a strong charge and by the fifth pit stop, the team had taken over the lead. Scott and Prather switched off a few more times but maintained their lead the entire time and took it all the way to the finish line. “This win really means a lot to us. It takes so much time and effort to get ready and you stress out about going fast and winning but you also stress out about keeping the quad together because if you get a DNF your year is pretty much over. This was a good race for us; our quad was working great and we were able to take win,” said Scott.

The Q1 team of CT Racing's Danny Prather & David Scott earned their second win of the year at the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 to extend their points lead

“Our CT engine was great for the desert; it was ripping all day long. It got pretty rough in some spots but our Maxxis tires and Elka suspension worked great. We didn’t have any issues out there. It was a really good race,” added Prather.

This is the first year of racing the BITD series for the Q66 team of Jose Torres and Jeremy Gray, but that didn’t stop them from putting in a strong performance. Jeremy Gray started the race and by the second pit area, had taken the lead. “Jeremy did an awesome job. He got us up into the lead by the second pit and we had about a two-minute gap. I took over at the third pit and we swapped a couple times from there,” said Torres.

The team was running strong in the lead, but began to run into some issues out on the course that set them back a bit. “Our pitman bolt came loose a couple of times and by lap six it snapped off completely, but we still made it to the finish, and that’s where we wanted to be,” said Torres of their second place finish.

The Q83 of Cody Mitchell was first off line in the Pro ATV class, but unfortunately, Mitchell, who was running solo, had carburetor issues early in the race and had to make repairs out on the course. The carb problem put him quite a ways back; behind the amateur quad class. Once the repair was made, Mitchell was on a mission and charged his way back up to third place. “I had some carb issues and that put me back a bit. I lost a lot of time and it took a while to get back up there, but I just held it wide open and kept on going,” said Mitchell, who claimed a third place finish.

The Quad Ironman Expert class is one of the toughest classes to compete in, so it was pretty amazing to see a first time racer #625, Ty Sanders, take the class win. “It was pretty tough out there. There were tight technical sections and wide open sections, but the hardest part was racing with the sun and dust first thing in the morning, but overall everything went pretty well out there, “said Sanders.
Sanders, who runs the Open A and Pro-am classes at the WORCS series took the win with a time of 6:40:41 and beat out 3-man team expert class winners, who had a time of 6:48:48.
