Laughlin, NV (5/13/2016) - Monster
Energy’s Marc Burnett dominated the inaugural Best
in the Desert Laughlin Desert Classic UTV race.
Driving in the UTV Turbo Class, Burnett finished
1-2 at the two-day event to record the overall victory.
Cognito Racing’s Justin Lambert won his fourth consecutive
UTV Production Class race by claiming wins on both
days and remains undefeated in 2016.

The
BITD Laughlin Desert Classic started the
UTV racers 3 wide for this special two day
event with the UTV racers running 4 laps
each day over the 17 mile long course. Starting
on the front row for day one was Branden
Sims, Justin Lambert, and Ryan Laidlaw |
The short-course race was run on nearly same
course layout used earlier this year for the UTV
World Championship, but unlike the UTVWC, the
event was broke up into a two day event with racers
running four-lap each day over the 17 mile long
course, which took just over an hour on the high
speed track.
After finishing first with corrected time on
day one, Burnett (#905 Monster Energy / Polaris
/ Fox) started on the front row on the second
day. Jacob Carver caught Burnett at the end of
the second day of competition, for the day two
win, but Burnett secured the overall win followed
by Carver in second overall. ITP’s Branden Sims
who ran at the front of the field for all of the
first day’s competition finished third overall.
Bill Zemak made a huge charge to finish fourth.
Jason and Derek Murray rounded out the top five
in the Pro Turbo UTV class.

Monster
Energy's Marc Burnett took the overall win
on Saturday with corrected time in his Polaris
RZR 4 Turbo |
“It was awesome to come back and win the overall,”
said Burnett. “The car is working awesome. The
Polaris is amazing. It’s just getting better every
time we race it. We’re looking forward to the
Baja 500. The points are great and we’re close
to (leader) Branden Sims. It’s going to be a race
to the finish. We’re really doing our homework
and a lot of testing. The Baja 500 is my race
and we’re looking forward to going down there
and bringing back the trophy for Polaris.”

ITP's
Marc Burnett started on the front row on
Sunday & battled with Mitch Guthrie
Jr for the win till Guthrie Jr broke in
the final lap with Burnett taking the physical
win, but finishing 2nd on Sunday with corrected
time, but he still brought home the overall
win on the weekend |
Carver, running one of the few privateer UTVs
at the front of the field, actually caught Burnett
on the fourth lap of the second day, but held
back knowing he couldn’t make up to the time difference
to get the overall win, so he raced smart in the
final stretch to secure the second overall position.

Racing's Jacob Carver launching over the
road crossing on Saturday |
“Our Fox Shocks and Lonestar Racing Suspension
really cleared the whoops and we were fast in
the FoX Proving Ground,” said Carver. “Toward
the end of the fourth lap, we were running second.
We were only 20 seconds back, so we put the hammer
down to try to catch up to Burnett. Only a mile
from the finish, we caught him, but he had a minute
on us, so rather than blow a belt or hurt the
car, we hung out behind him and finished second.”
