the BITD UTV World Championship Win |
With a huge crowd on hand, the ATVs were ready
to take on the traditionally dusty track known
both for being the shortest course of the year
at just over 14 miles long, as well as one of
the fastest. The ATVs took the start just before
sunrise for the 10 lap event.

Maxxis'
Matthew Hancock grabbed the BITD Pro Quad
holeshot |
Pro Motorsports’ Matthew Hancock looked to be
ready to take another win after snagging the holeshot
ahead of David Scott to take a quick lead. However,
Gray and Cockrell were determined. After starting
last, they quickly caught the Hancock brothers
and they swapped the lead several times. Late
in the race, the Hancock’s ATV suffered a mechanical
issue, which took the pressure off of Gray and
Cockrell. The duo overcame a leaky fuel tank in
the waning minutes of the race to grab the win.
“We knew we had to beat the Hancock’s,” said
Gray. “We were glad they were out because we didn’t
have to push as hard. We had a fuel issue, so
we had to pit more often. We hate to take the
win this way, but a win is a win. It’s going to
be a tough year and wins are going to be at a
premium.
“We just built this bike and we had a good run,”
added Gray. “We messed up at Parker, but with
Hancock’s having trouble here, it’s really going
to be a run to the finish for the championship.”
