Elizabeth City, NC - Brad Riley
came out victorious this weekend claiming a second
Pro-Am win, after an intense battle and also the
first Pro class Extreme Dirt Track win of his career,
while Harold Goodman took the top honors in the
Pro Lites class.
There were many changes made to the track at
Dixieland Speedway after the tragic crash that
occurred on July 12th that claimed the life of
16 year old Trevor Guess when he hit the wall.
Instead of going through the high speed sweeper
that passed along the outer wall, the track was
routed through the infield and then went into
some switch-back turns and then into a high speed
section. “They made some good changes and
I really liked the set up,” said Brad Riley,
who was displaying memorial stickers on his quad
in Trevor’s honor. Riley also was a pallbearer
at the services where over 50 quads rode in the
funeral procession.

Up and coming
youth racer, Trevor Guess, lost his life
at Dixieland Speedway doing what he loved
several weeks ago, and his twin brother
Travis Guess came out and raced at the
EDT National this weekend. Also, Pro Racer,
Brad Riley, has an "In Memory of
Trevor Guess" sticker on his hood
in memory of one of his fellow racers

Even with all the changes made to the course,
most racers seemed to like the different set up
and had a good time despite high temperatures
and even higher humidity. The hot weather did
come into play later on in the evening when dust
became an issue and made visibility difficult
as the sun began to set, but the dust did not
seem to bother Brad Riley as he rode two of his
best races of the season.

Brad Riley grabbed the Holeshot and never
looked back as he left the rest of the field
in the dust to claim his 1st Pro Win |
When the gate dropped on the Pro class, a pile up
in the first turn allowed Riley to come away with
the holeshot and check out on the rest of the pack.
“I was so far ahead I thought something was
wrong!” Riley said with a laugh. Meanwhile,
Danny McGraw, who’s second line start helped
him avoid the carnage, and Michael Coburn were in
second and third behind Riley, but Riley kept pulling
away and at one point, he had an 18 second lead
and was still gaining ground. As racers began to
get free of the pile up, Chucky Creech, points leader
Harold Goodman, and Zac Willett were all busy trying
to catch up.
“I got lucky and was able to miss a lot of
the pile up. I came out of it in third and was following
behind Danny McGraw for about eight laps,”
said Michael Coburn. “I finally got around
him and then I started to pull away, but Brad was
so far ahead, I wasn’t able to catch him,”
Michael said.
As the checkered flag was waved, it was Brad
Riley who crossed the finish line almost 20 seconds
ahead of the rest. “It feels really good
to take my first Pro win. I’ve raced in
the Pro class for several years and I have been
waiting for a win for a long time!” said
Riley. “I have a new motor and I think that
really made a big difference for me.”
