#5
Matt Smiley just missed the Podium by
finishing just 18 seconds behind Taylor
Kiser
|
Privateer Matt Smiley came into this round with
an injured hand, and during a pre race conversation
stated that he would just have to take it easy
and hope for the best. Smiley was just being modest
as the veteran made the switch to a twist throttle
to help with the injury and poured on the gas
as he worked his way inside the top 5. Keeping
the pace up and never letting up, he was running
down Kiser at the end of the race and overtaking
the 3rd spot on lap 4. Kiser was able to get back
the position and Smiley finished the day in 4th.

National
Guards William Yokley recorded his 3rd
Top 5 Overall finishes of the season
and is currently 7th in Points
|
William Yokely charged across the finish line
taking the 5th spot as he recorded another top
10 finish in 2008. Since making a change to the
Honda 450R, William has only finished outside
the top 10 once so far this season, proving he
still has what it takes to mix it up.Yokley was
off to a good start until he made contact with
a tree that set him back a few positions early
in the event. The conditions at this round were
just what Yokely needed as he piloted his Army
National Guard machine to a top 5 finish during
another rough race.
Finishing just outside the top 5 was Ryan Lane,
who mounted another solid race taking the 6th
spot. Lane has been capitalizing heavily this
year as many of the top names in the class suffer
from mechanical issues; however, this round
he was looking very fast and riding extremely
smart. After getting a less then ideal start,
the young rider from Indiana worked his way
through the pack and each round is showing more
and more speed. It would not be a surprise to
see him battling for a podium at any round from
here forward.

Polaris
Outlaw Racer, Bryan Baker secured his
1st Top 10 finish of the season with
a 7th Overall finish
|
For Bryan Baker, something must have clicked
as he came roaring through the Ohio woods aboard
his Polaris to claim his best finish thus far
in 2008. Taking 7th may not be a win, but it
should give Baker some needed encouragement
to push even harder as we head to the coming
rounds. Following Baker to the checkered flag
was Johnny Gallagher who took the 8th spot.
Gallagher is well known as a mud-riding specialist
and had a solid finish given the conditions.
For Chris Borich, another mud fest was not exactly
what he would have liked. In an interview with
racer Productions, Chris stated that he felt
on a dry course that he could run for the win,
but in the mud, anything could happen. While
this super talented rider may have finished
9th, staying inside the top 10 is still quite
an accomplishment given the talent he must compete
with.
