Rounding out the top 10 was the XC1 holeshot winner,
Brandon Sommers. Sommers was running inside the
top 5 until he tangled with a tree late in the
race and found that his GT Thunder Yamaha isn’t
as fast when its upside down! This is indeed a
tough break as Sommers has been showing solid
finishes round after round and you can bet he
will be fired up for round 7. Following Sommers
was Bryan Cook who has been on fire this season.
Cook had a terrible start and just could not make
up ground as the race wore on.

Chris Bithell was holding the 5th spot and
running strong until his machine suffered mechanical
issues causing him back to the pits where he
finished the race. He was not alone, as Chris
Jenks was awaiting some company as he was out
without scoring a lap due to an electrical problem,
and the pair would soon be followed by Duane
Johnson. The party got bigger when Brent Sturdivant’s
clutch decided to let go. The Can Am riders
have had their hands full this season and are
suffering terribly as this season looks to be
unsalvageable for any chance in the point’s
race. The new machine is going through it’s
baptism by fire and we all hope the team and
riders can get them figured out and do some
serious racing in the upcoming rounds.

Duane
Johnson decides to end his GNCC Racing
season after the John Penton
|
One rider who will be stepping away from the
GNCC series is Duane Johnson. Johnson has been
dealing with the illness of his young daughter
and balancing his racing with the running of
the family farm and had to make a tough decision.
We all wish him the best and he will be missed!
Duane says he will still be competing locally
in the Iowa series.
For many, this season has been filled with
frustration while others have basked in the
glory that racing brings. As our sport continues
to grow, and new manufactures step up to the
plate, we will all see successes and failures
and while we want success it doesn’t always
mean we will find it. As we bear down on the
remainder of the 2008 season, we look forward
to covering all the action as the point’s
race looks to narrow up! Round 7 will have us
all heading to Kentucky which is known as a
very technical track and should favor those
