Carlisle, IA – Sun and plenty
of fun was on tap for the second annual GBC heartland
Challenge where after a grueling 10 hours, Dirt
Works Motorsports claimed the Pro ATV win, while
in the Pro Utility class podium was dominated by
Can-Am’s.
This year’s event was held in August instead
of November in order to avoid any inclement weather
that plagued last year’s event and the plan
worked flawlessly. Rain fell a few days in advance
of the event making for perfect track conditions
as things kicked off on Friday.

For
2009, the GBC Heartland Challenge race date
was moved to August, which coincided with
the famous Iowa State Fair. The fair is
one of the largest in the country and attracts
over 1 million visitors each year, and for
good reason. There is some many things to
see and do, and if you are a music lover,
the fair has probably a dozen different
bands playing at once throughout the day,
and to wrap-up the Iowa State Fair week,
Heart & Journey performed to a sold
out crowd, which was an incredible concert
experience. (Iowa

First up on Friday afternoon was the Milwaukee
Pit Stop Challenge presented by Milwaukee Electric
Tool Corporation that gives pit crews the chance
to put their skills to the test and compete against
each other for over $800.00 in prizes.

Yamaha's
Brian Wolf, Walker Fowler & Donald Ockerman
(above left) quickly found out that HiPer
Wheels may work great on the track, but
they don't come off half as easy as stock
wheels as they struggled to get the wheels
free from the lugs, but regardless, it was
apparent that they were still having fun.

New to the agenda for 2009 was the addition of
a 1.5 hour Mini UTV endurance race. With the growing
popularity of these vehicles, event promoter Andy
Kyner thought it would be a good idea to add a
class for them and see how things went. “It
turned out to be really fun for everyone. The
kids had a good time and it was really fun to
watch them, said Kyner, who will be incorporating
them into next year’s event with the help
of Polaris.

The
Heartland Challenge featured the 1st Ever
Mini Polaris Rzr 170 UTV Youth Race, which
attracted only 2 teams in its debut, but
we expect to see this class grow in the
future. C&D Racing's prepped unit run
by the Kyner boys (above left) claimed the
win when High Energy Racing's (above right)
HLS shocks blew out after an hour of racing,
which sent them to the pits. |
