Open Pro Rookie, David Haagsma, once agian
finishes in the Top 5 |
Romain Couprie took second in the Open Pro main,
but MCR’s Beau Baron was hot on his heels
once he got around Mike Machado. Baron gained enough
ground to be within a second of Romain, but did
not have enough time to make a pass before the checkered
flag and had to settle for the final spot on the
podium. “I had a tough time getting around
Mike Machado, but once I did I closed the gap on
Romain pretty quick, but I didn’t have enough
time to do anything. If I would have had one more
lap I think I could have taken him,” said
Baron
Mike Machado ran one of his best races so far
this season. Machado was third off the line and
held his position for most of the moto before
Baron made the pass and left Machado to settle
for fourth place. David Haagsma also had a good
race. Haagsma came on strong off the line and
charged his way to round out the top five.
Nick Granlund, who has been running the Open
Pro class all season, suffered a nasty wreck during
the race. Granlund splintered his femur, which
required surgery to fix and will be out of commission
for several months as he recovers.
In the 450 Production Expert class, Can-am Motoworks’
Dillon Zimmerman continued to dominate. Zimmerman
took an easy win in his heat race but had to work
a little harder in the main. “I was fourth
off the line and I was able to get past the first
three guys pretty easily, but Garrin Fuller was
a little harder to pass and we battled for a little
while before I was able to get around him,”
said Zimmerman who took the overall win. Fuller
claimed a close second while Oregon City’s
Cody Irving rode a solid race and claimed the
number three spot, while Bryce Peart took fourth
and Chase Thomas rounded out the top five.
The next round of the 2009 Yamaha ITP Quadcross
series will be the first of two Saturday night
races this season. The hosting facility for the
June 13th race will be Speedworld MX in Surprise,
AZ.
