Surprise, AZ - Can-Am Motowork’s
Jeremie Warnia took a double win in both the Pro
Production and Open Pro classes at Speedworld MX
on Saturday night, despite some stiff competition
from Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson and Kawasaki’s
Josh Creamer.
All day long racers were cooked by the 100+ degree
temperatures of the desert, but just before the
first Pro Production moto, Mother Nature let loose
and a deluge of rain fell creating a soupy mud
all over the track. “It was so muddy, I
used all my tear offs and had to ditch my goggles
by the middle of the moto, said Yamaha’s
Dustin Nelson, who was second off the line behind
Jeremie Warnia, who edged out Justin Noss to claim
the moto one holeshot.
Warnia was flying through the mud in first place,
but fell back to second when Dustin Nelson, who
had made his way around Noss, went wide in a turn
and powered past the French racer, taking the
win and leaving Warnia to finish in second place.
Josh Creamer who made a surprise appearance at
round seven was in a close fourth off the line
behind Nelson. Creamer stayed close to Nelson
the entire moto, but with vision being an issue
due to all the mud, Creamer stayed put in third
all the way to the checkered flag. “The
visibility was horrible. I went through all of
my tear offs and lost my goggles halfway through
the first lap,” said Creamer.
Yamaha backed racer Justin Noss was on the gas
despite the muddy conditions. Noss was side by
side with Warnia off the line, taking second in
the holeshot. “I tried to stay with Warnia,
but the conditions were so bad I decided to play
it smart and hold back a bit,” said Noss,
who would finish in fourth place. Meanwhile, Dustin
Terry rode strong and held off national pro Nick
DeNoble to round out the top five.
Track conditions improved dramatically for the
second moto as most of the standing water and
mud had disappeared allowing Yamaha’s Dustin
Nelson to hook up and grab the moto two holeshot.
Nelson was looking solid in first, with Jeremie
Warnia and Josh Creamer hot on his heels. Unfortunately,
Nelson went high in a berm, which allowed Warnia
to take over the lead. Warnia would hold his lead
all the way to the finish line, securing the overall
Pro Production win and lead the points chase by
six points over Dustin Nelson.
“I knew that I had to hold off Creamer
because if I let him get between me and Warnia,
that would have a big impact on the points and
it would be even tougher for me to try and make
up those points in the final two rounds,”
said Nelson, whose 1-2 finishes put him in second
overall and puts him in second in the Pro Production
points with 156 points.
Josh Creamer, who got a face full of mud in the
first moto and was feeling the after effects,
came off the line in third once again and held
his position right behind Nelson and Warnia all
the way to the checkers. Creamer’s 3-3 put
him in third overall for the day.
