Grateful to complete the race and take the top
podium spot, Bryan Hulsey said “it’s
the first win, so I’ll take it, even in
conditions like this.” According to the
smiling man from Missouri “it was a muddy
one out there.” Equipment choices made a
huge difference in the outcome of this race and
the condition of the competitors at the finish.
“The Powermadd gauntlets were definitely
the way to go today’” said Hulsey.
A smart call also helped the former series champion
finish his day in better shape than some of the
other riders. “I threw on a Moose expedition
jacket,” stated Hulsey, “and it kept
me dry and warm. That was the only way to go today
in a race like this.” Hulsey had the right
equipment today along with a keen desire to win.
He said “the new Avenger Vee Rubber tire
worked phenomenal today. I got stuck on the first
lap and just started plugging away after that.
Apparently John (Pitts) was having troubles by
the end of the race. I think we rode together
for a little while, then he got stuck again and
I coasted to a win after that.” Hulsey was
all smiles at the podium interview, recalling
their first lap tour of the neighborhood. “We
spent about the first half hour just exploring
your farm and the neighbors,” he told promoter
Bill Gusse. “We went for a joy ride for
a while, just out having some fun getting wet.
We were wondering why no one was coming up behind
us, but there was still arrows, so we kept going.”

Jason Ochke survived
the Moose Run and took home second place
in the pro class riding a bone stock
privateer Suzuki 400.

Local privateer Jason Ochke was pleased with
collecting second place in the pro ranks aboard
his Suzuki 400. Ochke, who competes in the local
MXC series, was able to run pro class in the
Moose Run thanks to some help from a friend.
He said “a friend of mine paid for my
race today. She wanted me to have an opportunity
to get on that front line and have the experience.
It was a great one. I hope to do it again next
year.”
The first lap was interesting for Ochke, but
he also learned the true nature of the Moose
Run after the pro restart. “First off,
when we got on the wrong course and everything,
seven miles down the road it was rather dry
and good,” he said. “But, once we
got back in there and Bill was nice enough to
restart us and let us go again, we found out
that the course was a bit different. Not bad,
just muddy, wet, the normal peat moss out here.
I enjoyed it,” said Ochke. “It
was an honor for me to be on the front line
with some of the best riders in the country
and to be able to stick with them a little bit.
Those are the nicest group of guys up on that
front line that I’ve ever ridden with,
and I learned a lot from them in just one day.
Hopefully I can continue to learn and stay on
that front line and just get a little better.”

Hanging it out
on the motocross section of the Moose
Run allowed third place rider John Pitts
to throw some mud from his Moose Racing
Dirtworks Motorsports Honda.

Aaron Venters
was in the Halloween spirit for the
start of the OMA Nationals Moose Run.
Venters and his Polaris machine completed
three laps of the grueling circuit and
took home fifth place in the plus 30
class.
