Morrison, IL - The OMA Nationals
series round ten season finale was held at the
Bike Barn near Fenton, Illinois. Rain throughout
the weeks leading up to the event forced Bill
Gusse to modify his original course due to high
water and standing crops in portions of the circuit.
The realigned course was shorter, but no less
demanding than the Moose Run of previous years.
When this race was over everyone knew they had
ridden one of the toughest events in the country.

                                       Mud was the word
of the day at the Moose Run held near
                                        Fenton, Illinois. Missouri racer Bryan
                                        Hulsey took his Dirtworks Motorsports
Duncan racing Honda to victory in the
pro ATV class after a grueling day of
battle with the Peat Monster. | The peat bogs were particularly difficult, with
stories of holes large enough to swallow an entire
quad circulating through the pits at the conclusion
of the event. The pro riders also had a unique
experience since a wrong turn lead them through
nearly seven miles of the Sunday motorcycle course.
After being discovered and rescued by Bill Gusse
they had a restart and completed their event no
worse for the experience. The thirty six minute first lap for the pros
however, did have an effect on the printed overall
results. Kyle Turnis was credited with the overall
win in the amateur classes, while Bryan Hulsey
captured the pro title. Turnis recalled a moment
of concern early in the event as he and fellow
A class rider Josh Bergfeld began clearing sections
of trail that were barren of any tracks. “I’m
either in first overall or I’m really lost,”
thought Turnis. He ultimately took the overall win for the non
pro segment of the race, completing eleven laps
of the muck and mire aboard his Sindt Motorsports
GT Thunder Honda in one hour, forty four minutes,
and sixteen seconds. Second place went to the
only other rider to complete eleven laps, Plus
Thirty class rider Tillman McDaniel aboard a Yamaha.
The C class Honda of Blake Hynous finished in
                                third place overall.

Bryan Hulsey captured the pro win aboard his
Moose Racing Dirtworks Motorsports Honda, completing
his event with nine laps in one hour, forty six
minutes, and seven seconds. Second place went
to Jason Ochke making his OMA Nationals pro class
debut riding what he referred to as a “bone
                                stock Suzuki 400.”

                                       Bryan Hulsey blasted
through a section of weeds headed for
victory at the 2009 installment of the
Moose Run. | The final podium slot was earned by John Pitts
with his Duncan Racing Rekluse Honda, completing
seven laps of misery before calling it quits at
one hour and thirty two minutes. Series champion
Kyle Martin suffered a mechanical failure after
the third turn and missed out on all but the start
of the race. Martin’s Dirtworks Motorsports
Rekluse Honda tossed a front sprocket and bent
the shift lever shaft. “It ended short for
me,” said Martin. “It was one hundred
percent my fault. All my sponsors did a good job.
All their stuff worked great. It just came down
to me making a small mistake; not having something
                                torqued.”
