Millville, MN - The Offroad Motorcycle
and ATV National Series resumed this past weekend
at the beautiful Spring Creek Motocross Park in
Millville, Minnesota. The Rekluse Spring Creek GP
took place at the legendary Pro National MX track
where Ricky Carmichael had just weeks before clinched
the 150th National win of his phenomenal career.
After the MX National, heavy rains set in around
the area and created flooding to the point where
three surrounding counties were declared disaster
areas by the government. OMA promoter Bill Gusse
spent the week before the race patching up erosion
ruts and redirecting runoff so that the racers
would have a great course for this year’s
event, after it was voted #1 track on the OMA
circuit last year.
Bill’s hard work paid off, as we were able
to run almost the entire MX track, and roughly
five miles of woods trails. The terrain in the
woods of Millville is quite a contrast to the
sand/mulch/sawdust combination on the motocross
track. The woods trails are mostly hardpacked
and even have some rocky sections here and there.
The standout characteristic of the trails is the
never ending first and second gear switchback
turn section that makes you feel like a rat in
a maze with a full blown bobblehead which-way-did-he-go
thing thrown in for good measure.

Matt
Lindle launches off the line and grabs the
Holeshot ahead of Jason Gudde & Andy
Lagzdins on the inside with Rob Zimmerman
still on the line trying to get his 450R
to start after repeated kicks |
On the start line we were enjoying 75 degree
sunny weather, with no dust or deep mud to contend
with: the perfect race conditions. Rob Zimmerman
and I have been battling back and forth this season,
and he held a lead in the championship points
race as we took off for the two hour battle. I
was able to get off the line good in third place.
Matt Lindle got the holeshot and was riding very
well for a rookie Pro. I worked my way into second
after a few laps, and Rob diced through the field
after a slow start to take the third place position.
Matt got rutted behind a lapped rider and I got
by him, but I only enjoyed the lead for about
a minute before I clipped a rock that stopped
me dead like I had thrown an anchor out.
