2014 SCORE San Felipe 250 UTV Race Report
::Continued::

Jagged X passed through and then as the GlazzKraft car drove by TireBlocks’ Jaime Kirkpatrick hit us on the radio letting us know they were going to need a right rear tire. The TireBlocks equipped car could still carry race pace with a flat, but we needed to replace them as soon as possible. We borrowed a jack and had a NASCAR caliber pit for them when they arrived. In no more than 45 seconds they were back on course.

The TireBlocks team had to pit for a flat tire during the race, but their pit crew was able to change the tire in less than a minute to get them back on the race course

Just as we were picking up our tools and the damaged tire, the bright green and black Monster Energy sponsored Can-Am Maverick piloted by Marc Burnett came flying by. We had not seen him all day as they had experienced problems early on, but I can tell you he was on a mission. At our next visual pit we arrived just in time to see the TireBlocks car pass by with Burnett's Can-Am right on there bumper.

We booked it to the next pit, and meanwhile the Jagged X car started developing problems of it's own. Apparent battery problems had them sidelined for a while, and Burnett was able to get by them and the TireBlocks car. Jamie hit us on the radio again asking us to look over the front end of the car as it was making noise. They arrived in the pit within minutes and we discovered the stock front shock had somehow burst the reservoir cap. As the truck was not in the pit, our only option was to swap the front shock from our chase RZR to get them to the finish line. Our shock swap took a little while as the race car was completely assembled with red Loctite, and we didn't have two jacks. Luckily in Mexico there are always helpful spectators that would give you the shirt off there back if you can get the translation right.

The Murray Bros. and the Jagged X went by while we were finishing up the shock swap. Meanwhile Alonso Lopez and GlazzKraft founder Hector Jimenez were leading on there way to the finish. Twenty miles from the finish the GlazzKraft team would run into some problems, shearing off the stock bolts between the rear spindle and trailing arm. This caused a radius rod hem joint to bust and the shaft on there shocks to bend. Burnett blew by them for the overall win, while Hector was figuring out a trailside repair. Luckily Hector built the entire car and is pretty trail savvy, I saw his temporary repair at the finish and it was creative to say the least.

The GlazzKraft team also ran into some issue that slowed their hard charge late into the race. Despite the bent shock, they were still able to finish sixth

The Murray Bros. snuck in for a second place finish just 2 minutes ahead of the Jagged X, and the TireBlocks team of Jamie Kirkpatrick and Kenney Sanford pulled off a fourth place finishing about ten minutes later. Marc Behnke finished 5th and the GlazzKraft car pulled in for a hard earned sixth place finish. I want to say congratulations to all these guys and I hope to do battle with them all at the BAJA 500.
