WORCS Racing - Round
6 - On The Edge - Pro ATV Race Report
::Continued::
Can-Am/Motoworks’ Josh Frederick fared
better than most racers for this round, but he
was not without his share of problems, due to
all the water crossings. I had a decent start,
and I was feeling pretty good, but the water was
so high in some spots that it actually caused
my throttle to stick wide open and I was having
issues with that for the entire race,” said
Frederick.

Motoworks'
#2 Josh Frederick had to overcome a throttle
issue to secure the 4th spot after tight
battle with Nationa Guard's #7 Jarrod McClure
in chase |
Despite the issues and the tough conditions,
Frederick managed to stay focused and hold a consistent
position for the entire race, for a fourth place
finish. “I was basically in survival mode
out there. It was definitely a different track
and it was tough, but I felt good and the bike
worked amazing, even with all the water. I’m
going to go home and regroup. I haven’t
finished off the podium in a long time, so I’m
going to definitely be going for the win at the
next round,” said Frederick.

#7 Jarrod McClure wasn't immune to the rough
conditions as he found himself stuck on
the roots & with the help of Matt Hancock
he was able to get himself free to secure
a Top 5 finish |
Jarrod McClure was excited to be back for this round
of the WORCS series, but things did not go according
to plan for him off the start, when he could not
get his quad to fire. “I didn’t get
a good start, I think I got the holeshot in the
Pro-am class though,” McClure joked.
Despite being last off the start, McClure put
in a solid race and worked his way up from the
back of the pack to the number six spot by the
second lap. “I think us GNCC guys had a
bit of an advantage for this race because were
kind of used to this sort of stuff, but it was
still tough with all the water. I was able to
start picking people off and the bottlenecks let
me get by a lot of people as well. I caught Josh
Frederick and we went back and forth a few times
and we stayed close. I finished right on his bumper,
but I couldn’t get him before the finish,”
said McClure who rounded out the top five.

Yamaha's #417 Josh Row finished in 6th |
Yamaha/Goldenwest Cycle’s Josh Row got off
to a good start and was looking strong as he was
holding down fifth going into the second lap. Row
did fall back to seventh, but was able to move back
into sixth and hold it all the way to the checkered
flag. “I was in fourth of the start and I
ended up getting hung up or a little bit, but I
just kept going. David Haagsma and I were literally
floating at one point. It was pretty crazy,”
said Row.
Can-Am/Motoworks’ Dillon Zimmerman was
not having fun with the water. Zimmerman got off
to a decent start, but got hung up for quite a
while in the second lap and fell back to 13th
place. “I tried to choose some different
lines and sometimes they worked and sometimes
they didn’t. I just tried to do my best
out there and finish,” said Zimmerman, who
ended his day with a seventh place finish.
Maxxis/H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma,
like most racers, was not a fan of the water crossings.
I had a great start. I was in second and I got
around Brian Wolf in the motocross section with
a solid block-pass, but then we got off-road and
he had some secret line and when we got to this
water crossing, he just blew right by me. It was
a tough course and I’m just glad to finish,”
said Haagsma.
Former GNCC pro Andy Lagzdins came out for this
round as well and ran a consistent race. Lagzdins
started out toward the back, but him many years
of racing GNCC paid off and he was able to move
up for a ninth place finish.

Yamaha's #94 Dustin Nelson found himself
watching the race for a few laps when he
lost his kill switch |
Yamaha/Goldenwest Cycle’s Dustin Nelson was
having a tough time at this round. Nelson crashed
early in the first lap and ended up damaging the
back of his quad and losing his seat. Unbeknownst
to Nelson, the crash also broke his killswitch loose,
which became an issue as soon as he hit the water
in the second lap.
“I figured I would just pit in the second
lap and get a new seat and that’s what I
did. I didn’t know the crash broke my tether.
The clip was still in, but the cord broke off
when I hit the water and the clip fell out. I
was stuck for about a lap trying to wrap the wire
around and get it to stay in place so I could
ride and get back to the pits to change it out.
It was a tough day for sure,” said Nelson,
who still managed to round out the top ten.
Mike Cafro held on for 11th place despite some
issues he was having and Justin Waters finished
in 12th.
