#549 Beau Baron earned his 3rd win of the 2013 WORCS Racing season in the Pro ATV Class at Sand Hollow |
Maxxis Tire’s Beau Baron got off to a slow start; he attempted to start is Honda in gear and ended up having to kick it four times to get rolling off the dead engine start. Once Baron was rolling there seemed to be no stopping the defending champion. Baron quickly made his way around the other pros and took the lead from his H&M Motorsports teammate, Haagsma. Baron charged through the rough sand and he clocked the fastest lap on lap two, a 24:06.022.
“I was able to lose Davi (Haagsma) through a few sections then we would hit the back hill and he would catch right back up. I don’t know what lines he was taking, but he would be right on me by the bottom of the hill,” explained Baron of his battle with his teammate, David Haagsma.

Baron pushed faster heading into lap three. He continued to put time in between himself and the rest of the field. In the final lap, Baron had a comfortable lead although he spotted a lapper behind him that he thought was Haagsma.
“I saw someone with the same helmet as Davi (Haagsma) and thought it was him. I really put the hammer down to make sure he didn’t catch me. I didn’t know that I had such a lead until after I finished and realized that it wasn’t him behind me,” regarded Baron of his last lap charge.
Baron had crossed the finish a whooping 02:19.846 ahead of second place. His win marked his third victory in a row and further extended his points lead in the Pro Class.

#422 David Haagsma placed second at Sand Hollow WORCS |
H&M Motorsports David Haagsma grabbed the early lead. He started to pull away from the field, but was quickly caught by Baron. Haagsma ensued in a multi-lap battle with Baron. Haagsma was able to keep on Baron’s pace until his rear brakes went out.
“I would catch up and fall back from him depending where we were on the track. I eventually lost my brakes and it was hard to push. There were a couple situations where I needed my back brakes and it got a little to sketchy. I opted to back it down and just finish the race,” said Haagsma.
