Justin Waters Takes Third Straight
WORCS Pro-Am Win
::Continued::
In Pro Am, Justin Waters continued his climb
to the title with his third consecutive win. He
now leads the points by a nearly insurmountable
48 points going into the summer break. Ricardo
Gonzalez battled Waters early, but settled for
second, followed by Tyler Benally.

“This was a tough one,” said Waters. “The last
few rounds I was lucky. I was able to conserve
and take it easy a little bit, but not in this
one. Ricardo kept me pushing hard the whole race.
He kept right on me, but I was able to pull it
off and extend the points lead going into Glen
Helen. We’re in a pretty good place going into
the break.”

Waters all but wrapped up the WORCS Pro-Am
Championship with his win, which extended
his points lead to 48 points heading into
the final two rounds |
Duncan’s Ricardo Gonzalez indeed dogged Waters
throughout the race, but an injured foot put him
back to second at the checkered flag.

Ricardo
Gonzalez finished 2nd after grabbing the
holeshot, which now has him just 7 points
behind Travis Hanes heading into the final
two rounds of the WORCS season as the pair
battle for the runner up spot in the Pro-Am
Championship |
“I got a perfect start and I was leading for
half a lap,” said Gonzalez. “On the second lap,
I battled him, but I made a mistake and hurt my
foot. It feels great to finish second. My training
is really paying off. At the next round we’ll
be ready.”
STI’s Tyler Benally almost didn’t make the start
after he had a mechanical failure in practice
on Saturday. Riding a borrowed ATV, he finished
third, marking his first podium this season.

Benally secured the final spot on the WORCS
Pro-Am Podium |
“I didn’t get a good start, so I put my head
down and tried to pace myself,” said Benally.
“I have to give a big thanks to Lloyd Ahi from
SJ&D for letting me use his bike. I blew mine
up yesterday, so I wouldn’t have been able to
race without his help. I had to make sure I didn’t
gas myself. I kept myself at a comfortable pace
and I didn’t rush things. It feels good to finally
make it.”
WORCS will return to competition after the summer
break on September 16-18 at Glen Helen Raceway
in Devore, CA.
