Town 395 Storm Clouds |
Adelanto, CA - Just two weeks after
the kick-off of the WORCS Series in Arizona, racers
headed west to Race Town 395 in high desert of California
for round two, and there was once again an impressive
turnout despite rainy weekend forecasted for Southern
California. Among the entries were 22 Pros, which meant
another full gate for the Pro race on Sunday as the
series continues to grow in popularity and attract some
of the fastest ATV racers on the West Coast. Because
of WORCS series recent success and rapid growth, plans
of televising WORCS Pro ATV racing on national television
is planned for the near future, so WORCS Promoter, Sean
Reddish, called for a Pro riders meeting on Saturday
to discuss with the pros the future plans for the series
and some major changes to go along with it.

The
release of the KFX450R to the public is quickly
approaching as production has begun, so Kawasaki
brought out one of their early production units
to display at Race Town 395 with plans of having
their amateur support team racing at Lake Havasu
in less than a month. Kawasaki is also offering
$144,750 in WORCS contingency for 2007 with $2,500
up for grabs for a Pro Class Win

Reddish Announces #5 Mike Cafro as the Pro Rider
Representative |
With over twenty pros in attendance, Sean Reddish announced
the vote was 2-1 in favor of having a 10 round series
in 2007 with the final round being held in Taft, Ca
on November 16-18th, and he was aware the race date
conflicted with the Baja 1000 and Yamaha / ITP Quadcross
Series, which presented a problem for several pros.
Also, he announced the idea of organizing the top ten
pros in the pits and having all the pros run their 2006
placement number for the remainder of year. In an effort
to resolve the race conflict issue and his proposed
changed along with future changes, Sean Reddish, asked
the riders to select a pro rider representative, and
Temecula Motorsport’s #5 Mike Cafro was nominated
for the position. For the remainder of the year, Cafro
will be the one voice for all the pro riders, and he
was immediately faced with several issues that would
need immediate attention.
After meeting with all the pro riders, Mike Cafro and
Sean Reddish met on Sunday morning to discuss the changes.
It was decided that the Pros would be allowed to drop
one race or their lowest finish of the season to overcome
the final race conflict. Also, the Pros will lineup
according to their top ten ranking at the end of 2006
for the remainder of the year on Pit Row, and they all
will be required to run their earned number. Also, it
has been proposed to have a riders meeting at every
event along with an autograph session for the spectators
at future events. These changes and the many more to
come are the first steps in taking WORCS ATV racing
to the next level and attracting more recognition along
with bigger and better sponsors like Motoworks signing
on as the ATV presenting sponsor for 2007.

By the time the political side of racing was settled
Sunday morning, rain clouds raced into the desert bringing
torrential rains during the morning racing action, which
turned the desert sand into a soupy mess for the morning
racers and set the stage for brutally rough track for
the Pro Main with miles of sand whoops and sloppy conditions.
Fortunately, the mountains blocked the majority of
the rain, and the skies cleared as the Pros headed to
the starting line for the final race of the weekend.
Once again, Duncan Racing’s Doug Eichner claimed
the Production Pro class win on Saturday, which netted
him the first gate pick, and Epic Racing’s Josh
Frederick claimed the Open Pro class win, which earned
him second choice followed by the rest of top finishers
from both races on Saturday.

Because of the 20+ Pro rider turnout, the concrete
starting gate couldn’t be utilized because there
wasn’t enough positions to accommodate all the
riders and a few of the gates were malfunctioning on
top of it, so it was decided to lineup the pro and pro
am riders on chalk lines with the race starting with
the wave of the green flag. With the sloppy conditions
awaiting the riders, many of riders taped up the front
of the ATVs switched to taller radial tires to dig their
way through the sand.
