WORCS ATV Racing
WORCS Pro ATV Race Report - Continued

With engines roaring, the flag wiped into the air, and Pros launched past the chalk line for a short sprint to the first turn with Chris Riley leading the way into the corner, but Mike Cafro was able to beat him out of the turn and grab the Holeshot. Chaos would break out heading into the rhythm section shortly after the start with Doug Eichner sliding off the track followed by John Shafe and Jeremy Schell colliding, which sent Shafe off the side of the track as well. This opened the door for Josh Frederick to move into third place behind Riley and Cafro, and he would quickly pass the pair to take over the lead, and amazing, both Schell and Shafe would quickly recover from their early collision and move past both Cafro and Riley.
Doug Eichner was attempting to recover from his bobble and was up to seventh place position, just behind Levi Marana before the end of the first lap.

The next lap would set the fastest track time for the Pro Class for the event with Josh Frederick running a 9:37 laptime With Frederick’s teammate, Jeremy Schell, just seven seconds behind him as they had quite a lead over the third place position now of Levi Marana, who had a 25 second gap to make up in order to catch Schell in the runners up spot. Eichner would continue his charge through the pack and pass both Riley and Cafro and move into fourth place.

With sandy mud almost completely covering the machines and riders, many riders headed into the pits to have the mud sprayed off the engine and radiator along with grabbing a fresh set of goggles. Both Frederick and Schell headed into the pits with Schell making the quicker stop and taking off in the lead followed by Frederick a few seconds later with Levi Marana remaining in third followed by Eichner and Riley.

A disappointed Doug Eichner was left sidelined when his Honda quit and wouldn't refire after working his way up to 3rd place
In the next lap, Eichner would pass Marana to take over the third spot, but it would be short lived as the mud had taken its toll on his Honda and it came to a stop, which left him sitting on the side of the track. Pro Racer, Dustin Clark, would come to the rescue and tow Eichner back to the pits in hopes of fixing the problem and returning to the race. Unfortunately, after repeated attempts to restart his machine, it wasn’t going to happen and Eichner was left sidelined with his first Pro DNF in the WORCS Series, which utilized his one and only throw-out on the season.

Eichner would not be alone with troubles as Brandon Brown would experience issues as well, which took him out of race after working his way up to 5th place. John Shafe and Tim Shelman were both experiencing engine issues, which sent the pair back several positions as they attempted to nurse their Honda’s around the track for a few more laps and avoid a DNF.

#4 Robbie Mitchell charged his way through the pack for a 5th place finish, which moves him up to 7th in points

Meanwhile, Josh Frederick was able to make his move on Schell and reclaim the lead, and he would never look back as he extended his lead to over a minute on Schell and take home his second consecutive win of the season. Jeremy Schell was looking to conserve his engine in the final lap, which allowed Levi Marana to close the gap to only a few seconds by the checkered flag, and the pair began their celebration before the going through the scoring tent, which skewed their lap time results. Mike Cafro was able to maintain his fourth place position to the checkered, but Chris Riley would drop out of the top five with Robbie Mitchell charging his way up from tenth place to claim the fifth spot.

Epic Racing's Jeremy Schell proves his performance at Speed World wasn't a fluke as he follows it up with another 2nd place finish behind his teammate Josh Frederick
Temecula Motorsport's is coming on strong as well in 2007 with Levi Marana moving into third in points followed by Mike Cafro and John Shafe

The Epic Racing Team has kicked off the 2007 season on fire with Frederick and Schell finishing 1-2 for the second straight race, and the defending champion, Doug Eichner, being plagued with bad luck, which should make for extremely interesting run for the championship if Eichner can get back into his groove for round three in Lake Havasu, AZ on March 9-11.
