Jeremy Schell lead the early charge and appeared
to be on the path to his first win |
Eichner’s lead would be short lived as Jeremy
Schell made the pass for the lead, but before Frederick’s
could begin his assault on Eichner, he cased a double
on the motocross track, which sent him to the back of
the pack, and by the end of the first lap, Frederick
was forced to pit and have his radiator sprayed out
to remove the built up mud, which cost him even more
time on the leaders, so he got on the gas and recorded
the fastest lap two laps of the race over the next two
laps, which catapulted him back up into third place.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Schell’s lead would end when
he needed to pit for a tire change, which opened up
the door for Eichner to regain the lead for several
laps with Schell and Frederick in chase. Schell would
catch Eichner and pass him again to claim the lead on
the fifth lap, but just as quickly, Eichner would regain
the lead as Schell’s Honda began billowing smoke
and steam as the engine baked in its mud bath was beginning
to overheat, which eventually left Schell sidelined..

Josh Frederick(left) was able to secure his 4th
Consecutive win of the season and remains undefeated
in 2007 |
The battle was once again between Eichner and Frederick
for the lead with Frederick winning the battle and taking
control of the lead with just four laps remaining in
the race. For Eichner, the charge was over as Frederick
built over a minute lead on Eichner by the checkered
flag with his fourth consecutive win of the season.
For the second race in a row, Eichner settled for the
runners-up spot ahead of Levi Marana with his second
Podium finish of the season.
The Temecula Racing’s Levi Marana barely made
the finish line as he needed to finish out the final
lap on reserve, and team manager, Mike Cafro, wasn’t
as lucky as he ran out of gas on the last lap while
maintaining the fourth spot, which opened the door for
Johnny Shafe to claim fourth place after recovering
from a nasty spill down one of the hills early in the
race.

Brandon Brown |
Mike Machado made an impressive 2007 WORCS racing debut
finishing in fifth place after missing the first several
round recovering from collar bone injury, which sidelined
him for the second half of the 2006 season as well,
but after his impressive debut, he may still be able
to make a run at the points with six rounds remaining.
The muddy conditions worked in the Washington native
Tim Shelman’s favor as he recorded a sixth place
finish, which was his best finish of the year. Robbie
Mitchell finished in seventh followed by Brandon Brown
dealing with brake issues with Zack Herrera and Dustin
Terry rounding out the top ten.
With four rounds complete, Josh Frederick is off to
a career best start with four consecutive wins and a
mounting points lead over teammate, Jeremy Schell who
suffered a season first DNF, which opened the door for
Doug Eichner to move within five points of Schell. Also,
Levi Marana’s third place finish boosted him to
within one point Eichner as the points chase intensifies
for the runners-up spot as Frederick’s remains
unchallenged.
The 2007 WORCS season will reach the half way point
at Round 5 on May 11-13th in Los Olivos, CA, which is
a brand new stop on the schedule in southern California.
