AMA ATV Motocross Nationals - QUAD Magazine GrandSlam

ITP Tires Grand Slam Presented by QUAD Magazine Medal Awards & $1,000 Pro ATV Winner Bonus at each round along with a $1,000 top finishing Pro Points Award
In order to help out racers who were planning on racing the WPSA exclusively, the ATV Promoters Group, Racer Productions, The AMA, and ITP Tires have come together to introduce the “ITP Tires Grand Slam 2008” which is basically a series within the AMA ATV MX National series. “It’s a four race competition that will allow racers who were not present for the first few rounds of Nationals to have a shot at a championship,” said Tim. The Grand Slam opportunity is offered to all classes, including the Pros. “We hope that this will encourage racers to continue to race, instead of becoming frustrated and leaving the sport because of the unfortunate happenings with the WPSA,” concluded Cotter.

All though the Grand Slam is a fantastic idea and provides opportunity for racers, it may still be of little consolation for major manufacturers such as Can-Am/BRP who have dedicated a large part of their annual budgets to their racing efforts and had teams specifically contracted to race the series. “We feel fortunate that we had John Natalie and Cody Miller participate in the Nationals from the start so they still have a shot at the points race, however it is unfortunate that we are losing a venue as far as the Quad Terrain Challenge goes,” said Can-Am’s Del Bohlman the Product, Media Relations, and Racing Manager of Can-Am’s ATV division.

Even though Can-Am will now have both the Warnert Race Team and the Epic Racing Team at Nationals, they still have no plans to cut back their racing efforts this season. “Can-Am is still in its learning and growing stages as far as our race efforts are concerned and we don’t feel that the cancellation of the WPSA will have that much of an impact on us in particular. We do feel however, that it will impact amateur racers more than anything because many of them waited specifically for the WPSA series and now they are the ones that have sadly lost out on that opportunity,” said Bohlman.
