Taylorville, IL - The WPSA Powersports
ATV Tour headed to small town of Taylorville, Illinois
at the South Fork Dirt Riders facility for Round 2.
South Fork is not only home to a great motocross track;
it also has a flat track and miles of ATV trails running
throughout the 470 acre facility.
Beautiful weather provided great racing conditions for
the Mothers Day weekend, although track officials constantly
battled against the steady breeze and the warm temperatures
to keep the dust under control. In an effort to limit
dust, officials started the weekend by spreading truck
loads of mulch and woodchips throughout the track and
pit area. Racing caused the mulch to fall away from
the track, revealing a very hard packed "blue groove"
lines. The track eventually shaped up to include hefty
breaking bumps adding additional challenge to the already
narrow track. The long winding Holeshot forced many
racers to provide exciting hard charging battles throughout
the weekend.

Joe Haavisto Receives his $1,000 Privateer Award
from South Fork Dirt Riders |
Did somebody say Suzuki? Team Rockstar/MSR/Pro Taper/Suzuki/Yoshimura
couldn't be any happier, as they swept the podium
for the first time ever this past weekend in the Super
Quad Pro Main Event. Team rider Chad Wienen easily
took home the win with an absolutely outstanding performance.
Wienen made his trip to the front look simple, pulling
a comfortable lead ahead of teammate Dustin Wimmer
on the #191 ride and 2006 WPSA Champion Doug Gust
on the #55. If that wasn't enough, Suzuki also took
home the 4-5 positions with Lost Creek Cycles’
Joe Haavisto and Suzuki’s Russell Shumaker rounding
out the top five. Haavisto also won the $1,000 Privateer
award by South Fork Dirt Riders.
Adding to Suzuki's long list of accomplishments for
the weekend, Doug Gust came out with the $1,000 Holeshot
Award from Quad Magazine. Although Gust came out of
the hole on top, some other riders didn't come out
at all. The Super Quad Pro Main Event started with
multiple pileups with Kawasaki’s Josh Creamer
and Josh Upperman both going down before the first
turn. In a first turn, Cale Downen and Jason Dunkelberger
collided and almost caught up Chad Wienen in the process
while Rocco Arno was sent into the grassy field to
avoid the chaos. Fortunately everyone, but Kawasaki’s
Josh Creamer was able to return to the race.
