For 2009 Can-Am expanded its DS450 offering to include
three models with the base model DS450 along with
the DS450X XC and DS450X MX models. These two new
racing specific packages fine tune the machines to
the particular type of racing they will be used for,
saving the buyer countless dollars in aftermarket
parts and countless hours of wrenching on the machine
to make it ready to race.

The
Can-Am DS450 X models are loaded with accessories
not found on the standard DS450 with both
XC & MX models come stock with aluminum
nerf bars and heal quads. Also, they both
have larger bumpers and racing style specific
ITP tires & beadlock rear-wheels. The
XC model also has an aluminum chassis plate
& swing-arm skid plate

The DS450 Motocross X Package quad is stretched to
the full 50” limit with the fitting of +2”
a-arms, which are camber and caster adjustable for
quick setup changes. New dual-rate shocks with crossover
adjustment offer nearly 11” of suspension travel
with a lower ride height for better cornering. Also,
it comes equipped with race proven ITP Quadcross MX
tires mounted on ITP GP front wheels and rear Beadlocks
to offer top quality durability and handling. The
addition of aluminum nerf bars and a +1” anti-vibe
steering stem are two welcome modifications that the
majority of motocross racers would need to do otherwise.

The DS450 Cross Country X Package quad benefits from
caster adjustable a-arms with dual-rate front shocks
with crossovers. The all-important low ride height
is achieved while still maintaining 10.5” or
rear suspension travel. ITP GNCC tires are mounted
on Beadlock wheels front and rear, and with the addition
of full aluminum skidplates make the machine ready
to hit the woods. Aluminum nerfs, full-wrap handguards,
and a +1” anti-vibe stem complete the package.

The DS450 EFI base model is now available in two color
combinations, with a red and white option in addition
to the yellow and black. The DS450 EFI sells for $7600
for either of the color combos. Both of the X Package
quads are black, and the look of these machines is aggressive
and intimidating. Form apparently does follow function,
as the race oriented quads look ready to go with a low,
wide stance and cutting edge componentry. Priced competitively
with the also decked-out KTM “ready to race”
models at $8999 for the DS450 MX and $8799 for the XC
version, the buyer will save big money over buying the
add-ons separately.
