2011 Polaris Sportsman
400 HO Utility ATV Test Ride Review
::Continued::
The Polaris Sportsman 400 HO
is actually powered by a 455cc High Output engine.
Even in the full size chassis it has plenty
of power to accelerate up the long steep trails
at Bull Run. The Sportsman 400 had no problem
traversing deep stream crossing or matching
the trail pace of its larger Sportsman brothers.
The only time we were reminded of the lower
power of the 400 HO was in long straight away
when the larger bore Sportsman's would pull
away but in tighter trail the difference wasn't
noticeable.

All 2011 Sportsman models received
refined transmissions for quieter operation.
The reduction in drive train noise was noticeable
while riding and adds to the quality feel of
these models.
The Sportsman 400 HO utilizes Polaris' tried
and true MacPherson strut front suspension.
The struts provide 8.2 inches of travel up front,
and a pair of preload adjustable rear shocks
deliver 9.5 inches of independent rear suspension.
While the struts on the Sportsman 400 HO are
not as up to date as the dual a-arms on some
of the premium Sportsman model they did a pretty
good job absorbing trail obstacles and minimizing
feed back to riders.

Although
the Polaris 400 HO still uses a MacPherson
strut front suspension, they do a nice
job of absorbing the trails.

A
Independent Rear Suspension was used on
the Polaris Sportsman that has a total
of 11.25 inches of ground clearance. |
