Yamaha Grizzly 550 ATV |
Lake Arrowhead, CA - Yamaha
has never been one to just build an ATV to fill
a gap in the market. As seen in the past with
the Grizzly 600 then the 660 and now the 700,
they shoot for the top. For 2008 Yamaha has
raised the bar with the new grizzly 700, but
that was not enough. For 2009, Yamaha has taken
everything they put into the Grizzly 700 and
developed an all new Grizzly 550 based on its
big brother.
Yamaha invited ATVriders.com up to Lake Arrowhead
California to experience the new Grizzly 550
first hand. At first, I thought to myself, ok
they took the Grizzly 700 shrunk it down, de-bored
the motor and took off all the goodies so they
could have a 500-600 class machine, but I quickly
realized Yamaha went well beyond my expectations.

I arrived late, As usual. I’m the only one
that lived in the area of the intro, everyone
else traveled hundreds if not thousands of miles
to be there and I’m the one that didn’t
get there on time. When I did arrive at the Lake
Arrowhead Resort they were already having beverages
by the pool. I met up with Van Holmes, the newest
member of the Yamaha PR staff. He explained we
were all in for a good time with the new Grizzly
550. After drinks we went inside for the presentation.
I was quite excited to see the new Grizzly 550.
Although I am more familiar with the sport side
of the ATV world, I still enjoy going for a nice
blast through the woods every now and then.
The Grizzly 550 they had on display was pretty
to say the least. It was the red Grizzly 550
FI Auto 4x4 EPS SE with red flame pinstripe,
which is awesome and extremely durable.. It’s
almost scratch proof, and ofcourse, it nearly
looks too nice to ride.

The
Grizzly 550's "Wide Arc" front

The
