2011 Yamaha Grizzly 450 4x4 EPS Utility ATV Test Ride / Review

2011 Yamaha Grizzly 450 4x4 EPS Utility ATV

The waterproof front fender storage worked great to store a small camera on the trail ride along with a water bottle

The engine of the Yamaha Grizzly 450 EPS worked well. We had plenty of power for steep trails, hill climbing and even in the more open sections of trails. The power of the engine is more than adequate for the machine’s intended use, and even when we got it up to high speeds, the EPS helped it to feel steady and handle well.

The rack and towing capacity of the Grizzly 450 EPS is impressive for a smaller utility model, with 88 pounds capacity in the front, 188 pounds in the rear and a towing capacity of 1,322 pounds. The Grizzly also has good storage with a water proof compartment in the front fender, and more storage under the seat. The Grizzly also has digital, easy to read, gauges for convenience. We were also impressed with the ease of maintenance of the Grizzly as well as it offers an easy access, spin on oil filter, and an air filter that does not require any tools to remove.

The only major issue we encountered on our trail ride was the front fenders coming apart, but it was easily fixed without any tools

One thing we did notice, and we hope that Yamaha has noticed as well, is that the right front plastic has a tendency to break apart. We broke it loose several times over the course of the day while doing a little more aggressive riding, but it was easy to put back together. We hope that this is something that can be improved upon for future models.

The suspension of the Yamaha Grizzly works great under all conditions, but we think that the addition of an adjustable pre-load would be a good upgrade, however, for hunting, farming, and casual trail riding it is excellent.

The Yamaha Grizzly 450 EPS is a great all around ATV that offers many features normally only available on a full-size chassis

Overall we really like the smaller unit of the Yamaha Grizzly 450 EPS and it is our personal preference over bigger models. The Grizzly 450 EPS is easy to handle, has plenty of power and can take on even the toughest trails. It feels stable and safe and was incredibly comfortable and fun. We would highly recommend this unit for anyone who is in the market for a multi-purpose, mid-sized utility ATV, and with Yamaha’s huge selection of aftermarket accessories, the possibilities for this quad seem endless.
