Adam McGill GNCC Racing Interview
::Continued::
ATVriders.com:
Is your dad going to be wrenching for you again?
Adam McGill: Oh yeah! Crazy pops, I can’t get rid of that guy. He’s been a huge part of my program and a huge help to me. He usually tells me the only thing I get to touch is both grips and both foot pegs so he takes care of everything else. It’s tough for him now because he’s home working on the bikes and we pretty much live on the phone talking, and trying to make everything work together. He’s definitely one of a kind, and I couldn’t do it without him. He gave up racing himself to help me pursue what I wanted to do. He’s still my right hand man for sure.

ATVriders.com:
We are here at FTR Race in Florida, and you always have pretty good success at these events?
Adam McGill: Yeah for sure! It’s hit or miss down here, some tracks favor me, and some don’t. It’s a lot about speed-checking myself and seeing where I stand up because Walker (Fowler) is definitely the big contender and shows up to a few of these, and I was hoping Chris (Borich) would show up. It should be good, I know today is a little dusty though, so we’re gonna try to pull that holeshot and get out front. I want to keep the bike together because like I said, Custom Axis is coming down next week to get dialed in for the GNCC and that’s where all the marbles are.

2014 proved to be your best season since, and you had the big win at Snowshoe, so what are your thoughts coming into this year?
Adam McGill: We’ve done a lot with Mark Baldwin and we were right there in the points heading into Unadilla and we had a mechanical failure. Parts fail as you know and as much as we run these bikes, it’s a given that they can even last two hours. We changed some things in the engine and it’s running really strongly. 2014 was a good year, and it wasn’t a good year. Each season we keep chipping away and finally I’ve been on the same bike for two years now and I’m definitely not getting any younger and these guys coming up are fast, but we got the old-wisdom up front though.

What is your training program for 2015 because you were definitely flexing your muscles at the banquet, how’s that going?
Adam McGill: Yeah we had a goal before the banquet, and I was able to meet that and I just wanted to look good in the tank, I wanted to fill out a bit and puff up and put on some size. You can’t do it for this kind of sport. I call it being “fat-skinny”, you can’t be completely ripped because your body has no reserves to go to once you use up all of your energy. I’ve dropped fourteen pounds since I’ve been down here, and just trying to make it the best. I’m super excited for the first race, and I’m glad we have the FTR race here before the GNCC and its just one of those things where we as racers get that nervous feeling every time we put a helmet on, but that’s just what we do. I’m super excited for the season.
