Josh Upperman ATV Motocross Interview

Josh Upperman ATV Motocross Interview
::Continued::

ATVriders.com: I think that’s one of the biggest things people don’t realize, you’ve been a front runner for years, and when you’re not at the track, you’re working!
Josh Upperman: I own my own landscape business and I work 3-5 days a week depending on the week and it’s always been just to make enough money to go racing again on the weekends, so this is a huge step for me and will allow a lot of free time for me now to actually train and ride much more than ever between races.

ATVriders.com: You’ve built a good relationship with Tim Farr and have been able to train and stay at his house down here in Florida, how’s that been working out for you?
Josh Upperman: Tim has been a huge asset to my program for many years, and I can’t thank him enough. He’s been extremely successful with ATV racing and knows what it’s about and helps me with my setup and letting me stay at his place here in Florida to train and focus on the upcoming year over the winter.

Josh Upperman has been living in Florida during the winter months with Tim Farr & has been training at a private motocross track owned by the Walker Family

ATVriders.com: What can you say about the private track that you practice at and we used for the photo shoot today?
Josh Upperman: Oh yeah it’s a huge advantage for me to be able to practice and train on it, the Walker family is so huge for my program and they are ATV racers too and I’m really fortunate to have them on my side to help me out. I get to help Lance Walker out as well with bike setup as he races as well and is getting faster and faster and it’s just a big circle of people helping each other, and I can’t thank them enough for their help.

ATVriders.com: What’s your thoughts on the AMA Pro ATV motocross season kicking off in Daytona during Bike Week?
Josh Upperman: For ATV motocross racing to be held in Daytona during Bike Week and getting some new spectators and some new eyes on our sport is huge, so it will give us a chance to show people what ATV racing is all about, so hopefully we get a good turnout and it is a successful event.

ATVriders.com: Living and training in Florida, should be a huge advantage to preparing for the Daytona and Georgia, which both should be fairly sandy tracks.
Josh Upperman: Yeah, it’s another advantage, and I know Daytona brings in a bunch of clay and dirt and I’m used to racing those races in Georgia or other places and they are all sand too and it’s going to be an awesome time and taking advantage of training down here, it should just be a really good time for us.

Since he has been training in similar conditions like they will have in Daytona, Josh Upperman feels that his winter training down south will be an advantage

ATVriders.com: I wish you the best with your new Root River Racing program, and I expect you to have another great year.
Josh Upperman: I just gotta say a huge thank you to Rich Gillette and Root River Racing and all of the people on the team, along with all of the sponsors helping to get the ATV setup including Motowoz, ITP Tires for helping me out in the tire and suspension department. JB Racing components will of course be on the bike as well, and Jody Bateman is a huge part of the program and has always worked his butt off for me, and it’s awesome to have those guys behind you on your team.
