Although this is not his first year as a
Pro racer, it is Can-Am MotoWorks’ Brandon
Smith’s first year as a Pro in the AMA
ATV Motocross Championship.
Last year, Smith was racing on the West coast
in the WORCS and Yamaha ITP Quadcross series’,
and despite some bad luck in the WORCS series,
Smith came on strong at Quadcross taking the
top spot on the Pro podium five times, and
almost claiming the championship from Yamaha’s
Dustin Nelson.
A motocross racer at heart, Smith was ecstatic
when he found out the Can-Am Motoworks team
would be commanding a second team for AMA
ATV Motocross Nationals and he was to be a
part of it.

place against some stiff competition |

the Motoworks /Can-Am Team & compete
in both the WORCS & Quadcross Series
in the Pro Class |
Smith, who has been racing for seven years,
stepped up his efforts back in 2007 when he
entered into the Pro-am class of the WPSA
series. Brandon’s first season had him
finishing well within the top ten, and those
efforts earned him the attention of Can-Am,
who was in the process of putting it’s
race teams together for 2008. “I was
really excited to be picked up by the Can-Am
Motoworks team to do Quadcross and WORCS,
Smith recalled.

Brandon Smith was right at home at the
Glen Helen despite a few butterfly's
making the move to the AMA Pro ATV class
considering he has claimed several Quadcross
Moto wins at Glen Helen in 2008

Smith’s aggressive style and impressive
results at Quadcross made him a natural choice
to be a part of the new Can-Am Motoworks team
along with Jeremy Lawson for 2009, but Smith
admits, racing in the AMA ATV Pro season opener
at Glen Helen was a little unnerving. “I
was pretty anxious and didn’t really
know what to expect, but now that I have the
first race out of the way, I’ve settled
down a little bit and I know what I have to
do and what it’s going to take to do
well,” he said. Smith’s biggest
goal for the season is to be on the podium
and hopefully finish his year in the top five.
