Death Valley National Park Off-Road Jeep Adventure Drive
::Continued::

It is also recommend having plenty of food, water, and gas while driving in Death Valley. The gas prices in Death Valley are over $5.50 per gallon on average, so it is smart to fuel up before heading into the Death Valley. We brought along three 5-gallon gas cans that we filled up before our arrival in Death Valley to ensure we would have plenty of gas for our expedition. Another necessity to have while exploring Death Valley is to bring along plenty food and water, because you never know if you will get lost – as many unfortunately have died of starvation or dehydration in Death Valley.

Farabee's Jeep Rentals - Death Valley
Camp Chef sent their Rainier Camper's Combo - Grill / Griddle / Stove to cook our food while camping in Death Valley

We did a little grocery shopping in Lone Pine, CA before heading into Death Valley. We bought an assortment of food including plenty of high energy fruit like oranges, grapes, and plumbs. We also purchased several kinds of meat to cook on our portable Camp Chef propane grill.

We were lucky enough to have our friend Matt Anderson from Camp Chef ship out one of their high quality portable camping grills overnight to Death Valley. This would allow us to cook meals on our 3-day camping trip at one of the most rugged places on earth.

Farabee's Jeep Rentals - Death Valley
The Camp Chef grill was very easy to use as we first tested it as we cooked our first meal of the trip - carne asada & eggs with salsa for breakfast

Camp Chef set us up with their Rainier Camper's Combo - Grill / Griddle / Stove with a 10-inch iron skillet and two spatulas for cooking. The grill was very easy to set up and is fueled by a small propane tank. We purchased our propane tank at Wal-Mart for less than 3 dollars and there was plenty of fuel left after cooking 3 days of meals, which was impressive.

The Camp Chef Rainier Camping Grill features two burners with a non-stick grill and griddle that works perfect for cooking meat or warming up tortillas – as took advantage of everyday. The grill includes 3 wind blockers that fold out very easy that help from high wind knocking the lit flame out. The whole grills folds up very easy and has a spring-loaded latch that helps secure the lid for safe travels.  The Camp Chef Rainier Camper's Combo - Grill / Griddle / Stove is very portable and was small enough for us to pack it in our Fly Racing gear bag for our flight back home.

Zabriskie Point - Death Valley, CA
Zabriski Pointe is one of the best destinations in Death Valley National Park to capture sunrise!

There are many geological attractions in Death Valley including Bad Water Salt Flats, Zabriskie point, Artist’s Drive, Eureka Sand Dunes, and the Race Track – just to name a few. On 3-day Jeep Adventure Drive, we chose to take full advantage of our 4WD and explore the two most remote attractions in Death Valley – the Race Track, which is famous for its mysterious moving rocks and the Eureka Sand Dunes which is home to some of the tallest Sand Dunes in the United States.

After loading up the four-door Jeep Wrangler at Farbee’s Jeep Rentals with our camping essentials, we hit the road just as the sun went down. This first leg of the trip we had no idea what to expect, as our only guidance we had was our guesstimated GPS coordinates and simple Death Valley Back Road maps leading us into the uncanny darkness.

As the main road came to a fork, we would split off to the rugged dirt road that would lead to the Race Track. As the night grew darker, we would make our way down the washboard dirt roads that seemed to rumble everything in the Jeep for miles.

Once we reached the Race Track, we decided to take a break from driving, get out our cameras, and go find some moving rocks we heard so much about.  Once on the Playa we could not see but a couple feet in front of us even with the flashlight.  It was an eerie feeling walking out onto the darkness not knowing if or when we would trip over on meandering rock.
