All though the skill level of the riders training at the facility varies, Dee stresses that there are two main things that will help any rider to achieve their goals. “Commitment is a huge part of it. You have to be committed to working hard and dedicating yourself to the program,” he stated. “But if you really want to make it, you have to have the heart and go out there and train and practice all day, everyday. You have to give it everything you’ve got. That’s what makes the difference.”

The Splendora facility is situated on 200 acres in rural Texas. It is surrounded by trees and consists of two tracks, one for practice, and one for serious training and riding. The soil is a mix of sand and clay and is kept well groomed. Many of the riders that come down to work with Dee end up staying right at the track. “We have water and electricity hook-up’s for anyone with an RV. A Lot of guys come down here and just camp out at the track instead of staying in a motel,” said Dee. “It’s like a big family out here. They are all out here training and having fun to!”

Spending the winter in the southern regions of the country to train is no longer considered a luxury afforded to only Pro racers. Amateur racers who have ambitions of being the next Bill Ballance or Doug Gust are constantly looking for ways to get an edge over their competition. As the benefits of racing continue to increase, facilities such as Splendora could see a huge increase in attendance of young racers wanting to become more competitive in order to achieve their racing goals.
